Thread: Courland Uniforms Retexture

    Default Courland Uniforms Retexture

So... you might ask "Why Courland?" Because I recently saw Spankys Awesome flags for courland and now feel like creating a courlandian empire. For that I want to make realistic uniforms, since I doubt CA made it right...

I only have one problem: I dont find any references, except from one little picture so far, http://bp2.blogger.com/_vyMWQXW_-D8/...rs_01.jpg.jpeg I guess its a general and a mounted grenadier with green? coats and red facings? So I guess I could start with the cavalry according to this style, though I want to make a whole rooster and thus NEED YOUR HELP!

Anybody has any pictures of 18th Century Courlandian Army?

This might be the source for figurines you found:
    http://www.kronoskaf.com/syw/index.p...kiy_Leib-Guard

You might try searching sources with info on Poland-Lithuania, since Courland was their vassal for most of the 18th c.

    Edit:
Here's more figurines. You might contact this guy, as he appears to have good sources. As an avid hobbyist, he'd probably be delighted you care

Humm... I made a skin for courlandian foot artillery... but now Im facing two problems:

One, how to do this in a .pack-file? and two, how shall I explain the game that now courland uses unique skins?

Actually some tuts say something about edits in the pack manager in the right scale, but there is no right scale for me, and if I add the textures into a new empty pack-file, packmanager crashes.

Nargh Im too dumb for that

Doublepost and shameless bump, I present an Foot Artillery Beta (will brighten the coat and lighten the trousers)

Tell me what you think, I made them according to the figurines

EDIT: Made the changes I described above.

Looks nice Jared Last week, I tried to find info on courland and I did not found much. If could can have enough material to re-skin all of courland that would be great. I fear those miniatures pictures might be the only source available. I would like also to sugguest, next time you take a screenshot, take the light into account. I mean, I your picture the light is coming from behind and cast a shadow on the front of the model. I think your work could be much more apreciate in daylight . I'm eager to see the rest...

Humm... Im facing massive problems with the gloss-maps... one the artillery, I just cant erase the alpha-lvl, I mean I do it in photoshop but they still get their faction color
On the Line, I deleted alpha, but unfortunately, no more shine-effects like the artillery units has... humm

Anyhow, a WIP on Line (I dont claim realism here, just do what I see on the figurines ... but maybe I get some good pictures of courlandian uniforms soon!) and another pic of artillery, listening to orions advice now not in the shadows

For the Line: I still dont know about the facings, and I will remove the black on their knees, looks like they arrived with skateboard recently and hadnt time to remove their protectors

I don't use photoshop I use gimp so it's a bit different ( I wish I had photoshop sometimes though). I believe it's best to paint alll black the gloss map's alpha channel rather than delete it. I use DXTBMP ( a free program, maybe not the best but it does the job. ) Anyhow here's the gloss map for line infantry with the alpha channel edited. You'll have to rename it something like euro_line_infantry_courland_gloss_map to map it faction specific. I hope it helps... looking good, keep up

Well now im getting really confused... Does the foot artillery use another gloss map than "euro_foot_artillery_gloss_map.dds"? Because no matter how often I change the gloss map to have a mere black alpha level, the game still gives the units the faction color... It does not make any sense no longer.

For the Line btw. everything works fine.

EDIT: So Neofit explained me the whole uniform matter: The "real" courland units wore blue, which I showed in the attach, all the red soldiers are mostly polish or saxon mercenarys... so I'm not sure wether I will create a blue or a red courland army, since the real courland army consisted of one regiment of line and guards, I cand tell what is accurate...

I solved the alpha-level problem, and now present the next reskin: Guards.

If you want to have both skins uploaded, just tell me, I'm working now on grenadiers and cavalry regiment

Well, I have almost a complete rooster done by now, but I stopped posting it here since nobody cared.

I intend on making two versions: one entirely in the blue/red shape just for my own sake... its more like a "What would have been if Courland got a major power" so I guessed its okay.

On the other hand I will make a more realistic approach, with most of the units looking like saxon/russian/polish units and only guards and generals in courlandian uniform.

I can upload everything I made for you if you want, it will just take a little while.

Btw I will also make some skins for Sweden, my favourite country, and some other minors when I finished Courland.

    Hello Jared
Please don't despair ! Courland is maybe not the most popular faction but they still need proper re-texture. Also , I think most people have no idea how courland should look like so it maybe be difficult to appreciate the upgrade you did. I'v got your pack, I change to a patch pack tho, and I really look foward to see your historical version! btw if you want to use or modify some of my polish unit just ask what you need and I'll send it to you... keep up the good work!
( also maybe you want to post on the released mod...)

Great Work! Now those pesky Courlandians that I crush as Sweden will not look so bad anymore. Nice job, + rep.

    Thanks!

Okay, now a WIP on the Republican Guards (OhtheAwesome-Pack). I will give some ornamention to them though.

BTW. As I said I will make a swedish retexture, and for many units I intend to make them look similar like theese republican guards.
Look forward, maybe I will make a swedish line soon.

    EDIT: Updated.
