actually, knoetel's reconstruction is ok IIRC, and so is osprey's (I prefer knoetel's reconstruction BTW). evidently two types were used, though I'm not sure how it worked on a regimental basis. I know that in the SYW, the one shown in knoetel's plate (brass front with a blue bad) was the correct one, though it was covered by a black waxed canvas to avoid confusion with the prussian mitres (also brass [or iron])

He told me that we are very close to Ottoman preview. Unfortunetly September is queit busy week for him, but he will do it as fast as possible

these are palace guards (since we ARE dealing with the 18th century), not field mercenaries. Depending on who they are serving, whether spain, France, or the papal states, they will, respectively, wear dark blue or red. also, the uniform would have been in the typical army cuts, again depending on nationality.
