Do you guys need voice actors? I have some knowledge of the languages spoken during the Hellenistic period.

Just downloaded the mod. It's great!
Started playing with Carthage. The Units names are written in Hebrew, but is seems as it was done with Google translate or something.
    I can help fixing it.

They're not written in badly-translated Hebrew; they're written in the closest approximation of ancient Phoenician we were able to get access to. We talked to a scholar in the field on reconstructing the Carthaginian language a little while back, and those are the results. I can appreciate the apparent similarities with Hebrew, given the origins of the Phoenicians in the Levant.

If it is at all desirable, I'd like to help out the team with regard to some of the voice audio before the Autumn release. I posted a thread a while back about remastering some of the sounds which included a small sample (slightly lowered volume, less feedback, less harsh on headphone users, and increased depth so the voice commands sound better in-game). I'm also familiar with some other aspects of modding (such as real-time battle mechanics and graphical tweaking), to which Quintus can attest.

In addition, part of my career involves professional proofreading. While the in-game EBII text is already quite good, I believe there is some room for improvement (i.e., there are some minor grammatical, typographical, and punctuation errors scattered about that could stand to be fixed). If the team is interested in any of these services, I can be reached via PM. I am particularly interested in updating some of the audio before the next big release if possible, since the files will be included in the download anyway...

I might do voice acting for Numidia and Saba as I noticed both factions talk Phoenician or Hebrew. The language of the berber tribes (Imazighen) would sound more like contemporary Tamazight (berber language). Same applies for Saba which would resemble Arabic spoken by the tribes a couple of centuries later around Yathrib/Medinah more than Phoenician/Hebrew. You lads interested in that? I speak both Tamazight and classic Arabic.

    Hi,

though I'm fairly new at modding I can confidently work with EDU, EDB, descriptions and a number of other relevant files. I'm quick to grasp the underlying structure of files and thus be able to quickly find my way in files I've yet to work with.

An example of my work can be found here:

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?705852-Submod-Minor-Temples&p=14811447#post14811447

Although February comes I will have a Master degree in South Asian Studies I can't really contribute to the historical aspects of the mod as a proper historician could do as I concentrated mainly on the modern aspects.
Also, I have access to a huge university library and can get virually any book that is present in any scientific library in Germany through the local library service. If the need arises, I could also work my way through german scientific titles/articles and summarize the essential and/or interesting points in english.

So if I could be of any help, just drop me a note and I will gladly be of assistance.

    Hi,

Since the team is still looking for people, I think I'll apply as well. I'm not sure I've got a lot of useful skills to add, but I hope I can still help. I've already got an account over at the Org, so if I should also post this over there, just tell me.

I expect I can be of most use to the team by proofreading texts of varying lengths. I'm pretty much fluent in English and Dutch, if I'm allowed to say so myself, and can also understand German and French (the latter not to the same degree as the former unfortunately, but reading ought to still be fine. Speaking not so much). I've got a basic knowledge of Latin and Attic Greek as well, though I guess both of these might be getting a bit rusty at this point.

Secondarily, I have a (very) basic knowledge of modding text files in R:TW (I believe those of M2:TW are pretty similar). I unfortunately haven't got much to show on this front, as it mostly came down to me tweaking the unit stats in vanilla Rome I to my own liking and adding a few existing units to other factions (no editing of models or skins involved).

Thirdly, I currently in my first year of studying History at a Dutch university of somewhat respectable size. Although I don't think I've got either the experience or specialisation required to apply as a full historian yet, I think I may be able to help do some small-scale research or assist in gathering information from sources in Dutch, should there be nobody on the team with proficiency in that language already.

On a somewhat related note, I'm definitely finishing that damn Odrysai province description (Grrr... ), I will likely give that another try once the summer vacation begins.

That's all I can offer at the moment, but I hope there's something useful in there. Shoot me a message if you want me to join.
I tend to edit my posts once or several times after writing and uploading them. Please keep this in mind when reading a recent post of mine. Also, should someone, for some unimaginable reason, wish to rep me, please add your username in the process, so I can at least know whom to be grateful towards.

    My thanks in advance.

    Hello!

I am interested in learning about modeling units. I would like to help out if I can. If someone could PM me so I can get more details, it would be great.

I'll post a response here, because then others who might be having the same idea can see it, rather than having to PM lots of people.

Our primary tool of choice for unit-making is 3D Studio Max 2009/2010. We use that earlier version for reasons, which are known to our modellers. The first task we ask of anyone who wants to create for us is "assembly" - ie making new units from pieces of existing units. We have a pretty large library of parts, attributes, textures and so on from 2.1 alone, we just need people able to use 3DS Max, with the patience to put them together.

The full list of tools we use (for assembly you only need the first):

    - 3DSTUDIO MAX 2009/2010 - this one is very important because our MESH editor (look below) is meant to work with 3DSMAX. This is the only thing absolutely necessary for assembly, since we have textures and all the other things already

    - johnwhile's 3DSTUDIO MAX UTILITIES - this is a must have because it makes sure that we keep a general uniformization of procedures, used to import/export .mesh models(used by M2TW).

    - KnightErrant's GOAT 1.1 - this one is necessary if you use Milkshape, used to convert .mesh models(used by M2TW) to .ms3d

    - zarathos's M2TW Modeler's Toolbox, is a newer tool which replaces KnightErrant's GOAT and provides more utility functions.

    - wilddog's IWTE, used for settlement/vegetation models and other utility functions.

    Modelling:
    - Basics of 3ds max
    - Skin modifier
    - Skin modifier 2
    - Milkshape/tools tutorial for units

Lots more tutorials can be found here.

Hey guys, I'm a classics student at the University of Connecticut and I've been playing Eb and Eb2 for a while. I'm really into what this project is all about, especially in its goal for historical accuracy. I would love to be a part of helping make this game even better. If there is any way I can help with either research or using any resources I have available, I would be more than happy. I'm a proficient Latin reader and I'm working on my Ancient Greek as well, so let me know if I can help in any way. Cheers

    Hi,

I have been playing EB 1 and 2 for some time now and I find them wonderful (EBII just recently). I'm a student of Ancient Near Eastern Studies, especially concerning the Cuneiform scripts of Mesopotamia. I can read Akkadian, Sumerian, Hittite, and can comprehend the others to some extent. I can help gaining historical Information on Mesopotamia and other regions nearby, as the Iranian plateau if nesseccary. I am a german native so if you have any Let me know if I can help!!

    Hi,

Are you still looking for scripters? If so I'd be happy to help, I love the mod. I'm a Computer Science student at university. I have experience working on the EDB, EDU, EDCT and EDA, and a bit with the campaign script. I don't really have anything to show for it, since most of my experience has been playing around with the vanilla files or various mods' files on my own and just for fun. However I do understand how those files and the engine work, and what I don't know I can learn pretty quickly. I could put varying amounts of time into working on the mod per week, depending on the workload at school.

We are searching for musicians willing and capable of composing authentic themes for our Barbarian factions. Any volunteers?
