‘South Park’ Creators Offer “Apology” To China, Dunk On NBA Controversy In Process

Xi doesn’t look just like Winnie the Pooh at all! Tune into our 300th episode this Wednesday at 10! Long live the Great Communist Party of China! May this autumn’s sorghum harvest be bountiful! We good now China?”
This all comes after the latest episode of Season 23 where the character of Randy Marsh, Stan's dad, tries to sell weed in China and gets thrown into a Chinese prison and forced labor camp. Then he makes amends by agreeing to kill Winnie the Pooh for Xi Jinping in exchange for being allowed to do business in China (since Winnie the Pooh has also been banned in China due to comparisons to Xi Jinping). Stan also starts a death metal band but all the lyrics and their band biopic gets censored by Chinese government officials who fly to South Park, Colorado from Beijing to oversee censorship standards. Side note: Stan's new death metal band sounds kinda good.

Even if you're not a South Park fan, I strongly suggest you watch this episode. Here's a snapshot of Randy smoking a doobie with Mickey Mouse, head of Disney Corps trying to cut a deal in China with president Xi:

This can't be right. There's a guy on this very forum who assured me that China is a utopian society compared to the oppressive and evil US, and is so technologically ahead that they will wipe out all of the western world any day now. I'm so confused.

I reccomend you guys look into how China’s influence is growing in the videogames industry, such as WoW Classic. Their puritanical standards are slowly becoming the norm as China’s economic and social influence increases, which is why we need to create some kind of barrier or else they will control popular culture. And we don’t want that.

Are they even more Puritans than the big American companies? Wow. Anyway, we should worry less about popular culture and who controls it and more about current education.

Good luck fighting against capitalism. As the demographics of the gaming community change, companies will adjust their products, so that their features better accommodate their new customers' tastes, perspectives and even state laws and moral principles. This can be observed from female commanders in Total War: Three Kingdoms to companies hiring East Asian models to advertise their services. It's the inevitable consequence of Americans and secondarily Europeans gradually representing a smaller percentage of the globe's middle and upper classes (which are the strata of the society international corporations aim for). Popular culture will be affected, but it has always been fluid, shaped by a variety of influences, so there's hardly any reason for concern. Adolescent fans of Warcraft from Florida will survive, just like the few rich boys and girls from Delhi and Ankara survived in the '90s, despite the protagonists and environment of their games not exactly matching their experiences.

I feel like South Park stopped being funny a long time ago. Is the new season any good?

Aside from China censoring already existing foreign media once it arrives in China (which happens frequently), it would be basically more expensive or simply too expensive for certain companies producing films, video games, music, or TV series to make additional versions or edited copies of their own works. That means they only make one version, a sanitized one that can be sold in both markets, dulled down due to appeasing Chinese censors. Aside from that, China acts pettier than that and tried to ban the Houston Rockets NBA team from playing in China altogether over one seemingly innocuous Twitter tweet by their manager, showing his support or solidarity with Hong Kong protesters. The PRC is equally sensitive and butt-hurt about the issues of Taiwan's de facto independence, Tibet's subjugation and Han Chinese colonization, and Uyghur Turkic Muslims in Xinjiang being forced into detainment centers for reeducation.

Why not worry about both? Also yes, China is more puritanical than America companies, as the South Park episode highlights, because they won't even allow the mention of homosexuality let alone a homosexual couple on screen, for instance. That along with a host of other issues.

I think you're right about that, for better or worse. While I generally think it is a good thing that the world is becoming more inclusive and expanding into other markets and bringing cultures far outside of Europe/Western world into the fold, China is a particular thorny problem. Barring people of Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, overseas Chinese, and even Chinese citizens in mainland China who aren't totally brainwashed but stay hushed about it, the current government of the PRC is not inclusive, or rather incredibly xenophobic to anything non-Chinese. How do you include someone in something when they themselves are not inclusive of others? How do you tolerate someone who is intolerable or doesn't tolerate you and your culture or just general international standards? Usually this isn't an issue with most developing countries but with China being an economic superpower they can throw around their weight and bully others into complying with their standards.

Of course the US is guilty of bullying others into complying with their own global standards, so it is perhaps a taste of one's own medicine, but it's also not a good trend. Chinese governmental norms and values do not match up with those of the free liberal democracies of the West, hence the friction we are seeing now and will continue to see so long as the Chinese government remains a (nominally communist) authoritarian state with a one-party dictatorship.

Not every episode of the latest seasons have been good but overall they are worth watching at least once.

Well there is a lot of lessons, in culture, if we took the time to look at it. And perhaps a warning towards popular hysteria's that is around at any given moment. Over Population was, and it is still one, but also a certain hysteria and fanaticism over climate today.

China was Hysteric about overpopulation in the 60s, as well other countries like the US. But China went on the path of oppressive prohibitions, of personal freedoms and such. The result wasn't and isn't good. ( as they are still at it with the 2 child policy now.)

In my opinion we cant let the same mistakes happen, due to our fear of this things.

What's the alternative though? Do you think the world would be better of with two or three billion Chinese instead of "just" one? The only real problem they had with this policy was that the traditional patriarchal thinking in the region, combined with targeted abortions etc, left them with a surplus of male offspring instead of an even number of men and women.

Yeah they are. I think censorship to appease China by what are American companies is very worrying.

That is not a real issue as it can always be solved by importation of foreign women (like African women). The real problem is rapid aging society results diminish of tax base and burden of old age healthcare. It is even worse for China because one-child policy results even smaller younger generation, which makes the transition towards an aging society even harder. That is why Beijing is heavily investing in AI technology, but it seems AI is a double-edges sword for China as its younger population is not highly educated enough to pilot those AI system, results increasing unemployment among younger generation as employers prefer to rely on AI instead manpower.

Which would be bad for Africa. The fact remains, abortions or murder targeting one sex or the other is bad, not only for your country, but for the rest of the world, too.

Anyway, this whole episode shows what filthy hypocrites those "woke capitalists" are.

Maybe they will consider Ættestup soon

That's an easy way to address both of overpopulation and healthcare, just need a little of brainwashing.
