You're a country that normally spends 400 years trapped on an island and, post revolts, you still own more of Russia than Russia does. There's no coming back when you're pretty far ahead. I don't see any reason you couldn't get big enough to contest Musty in land for China as well considering Japan is OP(Amaterasu help you against that 215 strong fleet though).

Got to agree with Border here. If you don't want Japan, then nation swap to Portugal instead of dropping. Portugal's situation can be improved rapidly by selling off mainland Portugal and moving your capital to the new world.

I still don't get why either of them quit. If Portugal had stayed, he would have regained all of the land he lost as well as been able to take parts of Frenchtral America during the ongoing Spanish-French punitive war (and had finished the colonization of South America during that time as the AI managed to do). And Spain is still pretty stronk on land and sea.

He's also correct in saying that I was planning on taking over Portugal. It's not quite a lost cause yet. Although if I'm going to jump in there I would like some edits if possible. The AI managed to lose the monarchy and pick some terrible ideas. Assuming there are no objections to fiddling with it to right the AI's wrongs I'd like to see Expansion ideas gone and that slot open for something else and the nation set back to a monarchy rather than an noble republic.
