Which faction are you playing as? It kind of correlates to the expansion of your fellows. And it also depends on where you conquer. Other than that, the Romans expand slowly, espeically the brutii, until marian reforms come along.
^Yeah, it also depends on the difficulty. Although, on my recent Julii campaign, the Brutii have expanded a lot (all of N. Greece and thrace). It must also depend on AI decisions of all factions.

i always find the scipii really get going into the islands like scisilly (spelt better of course) the romans often explode though because theyre surrounded by tough enemies but often quite vast expanses. for example the carthaginians are beasts but once theyre on the run you earn a massive amount of land for each province so they suddenly go from nothing to all north africa without you realising. the julii have a job getting out of northern italy but france is another quite sparse one so you get a red explosion through mainland europe. i always find spain a tough nut when i play as julii
The scipii get in to Carthage quite fast, generally, from what I've seen. Julii usually expand fairly quick into Gaul. Brutii have it the toughest, as they have to fight Greece, so they don't usually expand as much AFAIK
In my game, the Julii are beginning to lose battle after battle, The Brutii are massive and marching through Thrace effortlessly, whilst the Scipii (me) have conquered most of North Africa and are now in the middle of losing a war with Egypt who have control of Asia Minor, while Greece (stuck on Crete) and Macedon (eliminated via Brutii) are already gone. I think my game has a problem.
Oh and this is all before 200 BC

thx guys but yeah im using the brutii in very hard. the scipii really havnt expanded they are still trying to take out carthage in sicily. julii has just enterd france and , i believe is gonna have a hard time, just met forces with britania and germania. meeting these two new barbarians its goin to be hard, especially now because germania and britania just called a ceasefire. while all this is happening i, brutii, have taken out the greek and macedonian forces out of this planet. well before i bore u ill stop here![]()
You are in great shape if you have all the greek cities: That means you have oodles of money flowing in, and have most of the good wonders of the world.
You do NOT want your Roman brothers expanding too much, since you are going to have to face their wrath eventually...
The Brutti go stale after a while, and just have about 15 full stacks sitting around in Greece waiting for the Civil War.

Yes, Brutii mostly expand slowly, then explodes and gain about 15 provinces in Greece and then stop expanding. Julii either stop expanding after Patavium and Mediolanum or will expand throughout Gaul and maybe Spain. They expand fast if they are in that mood. Scipii takes Carthage fast, and then slowly absorbs whole North Africa. I've seen them taking the three largest cities in Egypt (Memphis, Alexandria and what's the third? (South of the other two)), but then I started the civil war. Brutii is the most dangerous opponent in a civil war, according to me. Julii usually have some stacks, but not as much as Brutii. Scipii send navies to conquer your territory (they sent 8 full stacks against my cities in spain when I had brought all of my armies towards Rome and Brutii) but they don't have as large armies as Brutii, although it's harder to defend against Scipii.
In the original pre-patch version, you could even bribe your Allied Roman armies into joining your faction. This way, while, as Julii, you'd concentrate on Gaul and Germania while your bribery would help conquer Greece, Dacia, the Carthiginians and the Numidians.

I my campaigns Brutii expand like crazy, taking all of Greece, Macedon, Thrace and Dacia. Scipii takes all of north Africa but soon starts losing cities due to rebellion. Julii barely expand at all, I have rarely seen them move past the Alps.
Well in my first Rtw game when I played the Brutii the Julii conquered Gaul,Spain and the British Isles while the Scipii conquered north africa. Scipii were quite usefull allies when I fought Egypt.

Thank you Vault Dweller. I almost never remember that city's name. Pretty embarrasing.
I played as the The Scipii Family and Julii and Brutii familys where quiet for many years then out of nowhere they just claimed so much land all ways the same i played on the medium setting.
Im currently playing as the Brutii family, and the other familys are expanding like usual... The Scipii have killed off Chartage and almost numidia. They have all of africa from Alexandria to spain.. The Julii have conqured the Gaul and some of germania, they are also expanding into spain
Really? wow, the Scpii go nuts? in my campaigns (I Often play on the hardest campaign difficulty level) the Scpii are practically stationary, they may gain a territory or two in like.. 15 turns but after that, they pretty much lay low. The Brutii go nuts, one time, they took all of greece and parts of Thrace in less than 7 turns. I don't know how they did it, at that time, I was just focusing on the movement of my troops to attack Spain. Although, after maybe 150 BC, Scpii start moving and conquer all of Sicily, North Africa and spread across Egypt and parts of the middle east. Rome probably couldnt've been better, atleast until I launched a surprise Civil War and seeing that much of their troops were overseas, I had little resistance and I pretty much conquered mainland Rome in three turns.
