Default Wow this game looks amazing

I've always been annoyed by the campaign depth of the total war series in both Rome and Medieval 2 (Med 2 is improved but still lacking..) but this one on the other hand looks amazing!

I've always wanted to recreate the British Empire and by looking at it I have more than enough ways to recreate it

But I ways just wondering how far in depth it goes, I was wondering if the English Civil War takes place in EUIII? And if you can change history, by having Charles I win the civil war?

And, I was wondering that if it does, what happens if Charles I wins? Does the monarch have absolute power? And what are the consequences of this?

Also, how much power does the monarch wield?

Call me old fashioned but I believe that the King should rule with parliament as the advisers

Anyhow! Must get back to my Medieval 2 campaign now! (must finish France off )

    Looking forward to your replies!

Basically, things don't go historically in it. You won't see certain leaders appearing on certain dates and so on. It features some big events such as reformation (yes, you can choose whether you go protestant or not), but otherwise it's pretty free. Accurate historical events will be featured in the expansion btw.
As far as I know, there are some mods that, for example, make colonization and other country behaviour more realistic, so that the countries will colonize as they did in reality. Also note that you can start the campaign on any date between 1453 and 1789, and the situation at the beginning will be exactly the same as it was in reality. You can kick some US ass with Britain. I for one like to start from the beginning and craft the empire just the way I want it.

The government system is quite simple, you are the government. You can choose from different ways of government, from feudal monarchy to administrative monarchy and different kinds of republics, but you'll still make the decisions yourself.

But I'll say, definetely go for it. It surely provides some refreshment compared to Total War campaigns.

What kinds of effects do the certain types of governments have on the game?

Or are you just suggesting the ways *I* can personally rule, aka; there not a type of government but more of type of how the player wishes to play?

Forgot to add, what are the benefits and disadvantages of becomming a protestant nation? I figure your relations will go down, but the only benefit I can think of is no interfering pope (god I hate the pope in M2TW..) but I'm not sure if that applies to EUIII?

The new government options open when you reach high enough tech levels. New governments give certain bonuses, such as production and trade efficiency, and royal marriages for example, only work with monarchies. That's pretty much it.

Pope doesn't have that much power at these times, but there is the curia, where nations have cardinals. Being the controller of the curia gives some bonuses, such as more stability for your nation. Going protestant simply kicks you out of the curia, and papal states and all catholics will hate you. Protestantism gives a 10% production bonus however, so it's usually worth it. Also, you will most likely have good relations with other protestants.

There are sliders where you can adjust you religious tolerance, and it affects all your foreign relations.

I suggest playing the demo, so you can investigate all the game aspects yourself. It gives you a couple of decades of playing time as one of the western nations.

Could you list the certain types of governments, and give some info?

Do they have sub categories like:

    Absolute monarchy
    Constitutional monarchy

I've only gone as far as merchant republic, but yeah, there's a lot of them.

Hmm.. Tough luck. Could you tell your system specs? It requires shader model 2.0 graphics card, so see what you've got.

Nevermind, I've got it working now. I had to change the screen resolution so that it will fit on my screen

And I got to see - wow.

Theres so much detail in the game, I'm finding it pretty difficult to get the hang of..

How exactly does one put an army into a ship to transport them over to Calis?

This is way over my head lol.

I don't actually have the game (downloading the demo now) but from what I've read you need to move the ship out of dock before you can load an army onto it. If that makes no sense its because I don't have the game

The expansion is going to add historical events, so you can wait for that if you want that kind of thing. Or just play EU2 with agceep, lol.

Do they have sub categories like:

    Absolute monarchy

Yes, and each government has its own abilities as well. Religion is even something that gives you different abilities in the game too. Makes playing different nations a separate experiance.

Well, I've only been playing for 4 days and I have to say, "Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun!"

In my first real campaign (i.e. not just playing around with what things do but actually trying to accomplish something) I'm having a blast using Japan. I do have that ID mod as it seems to give the eastern nations more depth.

It's like TW without the detailed battles (you use dice rolls with modifiers depending on what type of units you have, terrain, generals strengths, etc) and 100X the campaign depth. The AI seems to be much more likely to act based upon your actions (and your standing in the world) and much less likey to just attack for the sake of attacking like in TW. They even ask for peace when they know they are about to get pwned (whereas in TW the AI will fight you to the end regardless of the situtation.)

I'm not going to say it's better than TW as I have been a huge fan for years (my first TW game was Shogun.) But, I will say that after a while one game gets old and this one is absolutely a breath of fresh air!
