Default SPQR - My VH/VH AAR!

Finally, the first chapter is complete!

I´ll copy the "rules" of my previous AAR:

    - Difficulties Very Hard/Very Hard
    - Only armies inside Towns to be Light infantry, each time I capture a city I´ll create a governor/proconsul and train 3-5 light infantry. Armies like Legions can only enter cities to be retrained, only Legion that may enter Latium is the Republican 1st Legion.

    - There will be two consuls in my faction (faction leader - faction heir). Even if it isn´t historically accurate (as consuls were elected each year) it is better to do this than to create an Early empire. Consular Legions will be VE I and VE II until Marian reforms. To be appointed consul the family member must be at least 35 years old and have 5 influence.

    - All adoptions will be accepted for narrative sake.

Chapter 1: The Conquest of Italy

The Year is 280 B.C. and Rome is in turmoil. Pyrrhus of Epirus landed a massive army near Tarentum, and is threatning Rome with his most Elite forces.
The Senate decides that the moment for action is now, and sends both their Consuls, Tiberius Maxentius and his son Aulus Maxentius. Tiberius leads the Republican I legion of Rome, and Aulus commands the Republican II legion of Arretium. They decide that, before taking any action against Pyrrhus´ mighty army, they must "convince" the other Italian provinces to support them, so both Consuls launch an all out assault on Cannae, controled by the Apulian Rebels.

Consul Aulus Maxentius decides to attack the rebels at night

After Hard fighting the Romans defeat the Rebels and move on to siege Cannae.

The Rebels fall easily both in Cannae and in Croton, offering no ressistance to the well trained and supplied Roman Soldier.

Just after Consul Aulus´ conquest of Croton Pyrrhus moves his army and Assaults Tiberius in Cannae while the Republican I legion was being Retrained in Rome.

Aulus Quickly mobilizes his second Legion into position to engage Pyrrhus. Even seeing that the Romans are obviously expecting even more reinforcements, Pyrrhus decides to wait for the Romans to make the move. Two months later the Rest of the Republican I legion Arrives at the command of Nero Corialanus, and battle comes close...

Now in far superior numbers, the Romans decide to take the action, the Republican II legion would lead the attack. The Battle of Cannae was about to begin!

The day dawns, Consul Aulus points to the enemy. A great speech worthy of Mars himself took place. Aulus looked at the sky, it was clear blue. Pyrrhus´ army was in position. The romans could hear the Epirot Elite Phalanx Corps marching, their shield clingling and reflecting the winter sun in its peak. The strong smell of drunken elephants surprise the Romans, who never experience battle against such Hellish beasts.

"Such a nice temperature for some exercise, huh?! LINE UP soldiers!" Shouts the centurion commanding the first hastati maniple.

A horn sounds, the first line is ordered to advance. The battle begins!

Battle wages on for a few moments. The first and second lines are fighting the center of the Epirot Lines, Aulus decides to send his Triarii to flank the Epirot´s Right Flank.

The battle is confusing for both sides, especially for the Epirots, who find hard to mantain formation between trees of the woods.

In the second Hour of battle Pyrrhus sends his confused and Drunken War Elephants to meet the Roman Right Flank. Aulus rush to send his Velites to shower spears at the enemy!

Meanwhile in the Center... the Romans sustain heavy casualties but their sense of duty makes them Fight on!

Nero Corialanus Reinforcements Arrives at a crucial time. Seeing that he has no infantry to spare he charges heroically to meet the Romans, which are surprised to see such braveness!

Kreon falls in battle! Pyrrhus, seeing his son torn appart charges to save his body and orders his men to stop fighting to retreive his son´s lifeless body.

While Pyrrhus is riding to his son´s aid a simple, young hastati raises his pillum to meet with Pyrrhus´ chest, making a whole kingdom tremble at his feet! Pyrrhus of Epirus is DEAD, and his army would be soon to follow!

While Chaos spread through the Epirot cavalry, the center line gets surrounded by the Romans!

A Roman messenger arrives shouting in simple greek "Pyrrhus DEAD, King DEAD", and suceeds in his task of striking fear at the enemy´s Hearts!

Epirus is defeated, it´s king dead, it´s most elite army destroyed!

After the battle, Consul Aulus makes his return to Apulania to retrain the second legion while his father, Consul Tiberius Maxentius besiege the scared Epirot town of Tarentum.

Tarentum surrender their arms to the romans, almost no resistance was met, only the most loyal subjects of Pyrrhus fought to defend the city. The senate applauded the Consular Campaign. After 4 years of intense fightining Southern Italy was finally under Roman Control!

I´m afraid my lousy connection makes something wrong when I click post reply. As I don´t know if I can copy, paste it in word and still keep the images (can I?). I would ask you to keep your comments until I finish a chapter , please?

Chapter 1 is closed! The next Chapter will be: "War in sicily and struggle in the north" Until then guys!

Hope you liked the first chapter. The second might take awhile, as I am quite busy with my studies, I hope you express yourselves if you like or tell me why you didn´t, and if there are too many comments I can always post another thread with Chapter 2 (with a link to chapter 1, of course). Until then CHEERS!

I usually just take one stack and just continually attack Pyrrhus, retrain, and attack him again until i finally kill him and his pesky elephants.

There is one thing that I would like to point out. As I told you before, I don´t have much free time to spend in the game, so most "unimportant" battles will be auto resolved, unless I know I can win even when the strengh ratio is 1:3.
Whenever an Important battle takes place I´ll post description and Pics of scenes (like Pyrrhus´). Just to give you an Idea Pyrrhus´ battle took 3 hours. 1/2 hour to play the battle and the rest coming up with ideas for descriptions and uploading pics in Image shack (my connection isn´t that fast...).
Hope that doens´t stop words of praise from coming

By far, no, with my AAR's it takes many times that as I generally play the game, take plenty of screenshots, and edit and put up the ones I want to keep and then write the descriptions, etc... taking me sometimes a day per chapter to play then write then post. So you're doing a fantastic job! +rep!
Yes, I hate the fact RTW is out and I still have a Japanese title. Come on now admins- let's get with the program.
