Default MY BYZANTINE EMPIRE IS CRUMBLING!

After I have defeated the Mongols and taken most of Italy except of Milan I started to roll down the hill with momentum (which is fast since my mass is huge lol physics). I have not destroyed ANY Italian faction yet. They took refuge in the old areas of the original HRE. HRE’s capital is at Vienna, and they have defeated Hungary… in a crusade lol. Milan took Genoa back then later launched an assault on Florence and Ajaccio. Venice attacked Bologna and is now laying siege on Venice. The HRE took Zagreb by surprise. I didn’t leave any elite unit inside the city and this really crippled down my economy. In Eastern Europe the Danes took Bran and the Russians took Iasi leaving me only Bucharest left in Romania. In North Africa, the Moors, after being expelled completely from Iberia by the Spanish hegemony retook Tunis and took Tripoli which WASN’T THEIRS (I won it from Egypt). In the Middle East, the Russians took Tbilisi for the 3rd time in history and they attack Yeravan occasionally. The Timurids will arrive VERY VERY soon.

Or have I not met my real Manzikert yet?

...the first map is what my empire was at the destruction of the Mongols... the second one... the areas circled in red are what I have lost so far.

I suggest you allie or make a ceasefire with Russia/Moors, and concentrate half your forces, to the east. You can probably make some money to, by trading with them. I also suggest you allie with the pope.

Hmmm...they should have a diplomat running around somewhere. Type in toggle_fow and look for them. Remember, your top priority is to ceasefire with Russia/Moors...so offer them like 20,000 florins...if you have more, give them half, wait a few turns until you get more $$$, and then do the samething to Moors. Also by looking at your map, it seems like Moors will be the first one to go Bankrupt. Depending what version your playing, having a ceasefire with an enemy thats bankrupt or nearly broke, is much easier. Im hoping you have version 1.2. If you have 1.1 or 1.0 tough luck man.

Edit: Okay so you have 1.0....the only thing to do is to offer them A LOT of money. I was in the same situation, when I was playing vanilla, and my enemies NEVER accepted my ceasefire...even if they had 1 settlement left. ****ing ********.

Usually which direction do the Timurids go?... hope they go to Russia

Alexandria, Antioch, Thessalonika, Niceae, Corinth (converted to city) and Constantinople are all producing more than 4000 but I just dont have enough money for the upkeep.

As far as i know,Russia is the first victim, but you should be on guard, they may also come to you.I think the arrival of the Timurids will help you a bit, that is if they will be succesful, because their main target is northern-eastern europe.I suggest when they come you should execute the moors while the russians fight the timurids off.

well, it's not completely falling apart, you've still got a pretty solid core, although the timurids are gonna make this a lot more difficult

Wow that looks impressive But if you have declared war with that many nations you will lose. Make peace or hold off the north enemies and completly take over Africa... this way you dont have to fight 2 fronts... instead u will have a horisontal front. This could also be hard to maintain but you can put up good defence between Africa and Spain.

The problem is, the only significant part of Africa is Egypt. Dongola is just... sprawling with merchants and its a city. I have no castle there at all. In the north, Sofia is a very strong castle but the Danes keep attacking it and it is wrecking my economy and I cannot regenerate soldiers in time. Caffa is also ocassionally attacked my the Russians although I keep sending varangian guards from Constantinople to replace or help the old troops but I am irritated too. I cannot hold on to Rome anymore and I think I will destroy everything and abandon Rome pretty soon.

by the way, I didnt declare war on all of them. Denmark Russia and HRE had it coming. I bought Tunis from HRE actually.

Nice .I dont know what to say because i dont know how your economy is and dont know how much forces you can deploy, but I think you should destroy the moors, that way you will not have anymore serious problems with them, and then you could defend africa at gibraltar(where spain and africa almost meat),beacause i dont think anyone else will come to the middle(of africa)by sea, that way you will not need to many forces to deploy in africa. Are you playing vannila or with a mod?(altough i think you are playing with mod)

No, my version is pure! lol

I get about 16000 bucks a turn and my two largest citadels are Nicosia and Sofia. They both can produce Latinkons and Kataphractois

I just lost Venice to ... VENICE!...my last stronghold in northern Italy... and I just let Rome rebelled because its been redding and blueing and rebelling for every turn... so I let it go. So I have Cagliari, Naples and Palermo left in Italy.

yea, might wanna give ajaccio and cagliari to some people for ceasefire, they'll probably get taken anyway, it would be hard to supply them, with troops, and pointless to use money on them

I recaptured Rome for the 3third time from the rebels and exterminated the population, now Rome is green and happy... (in real life they wouldnt be so happy after the third masscre! lol) I find it really hard for me to recapture north Africa since Palermo and Gaza are both cities now. The closest citadel to Africa is at Acre. The Timurid have not taken anything yet... they are walking around Baghdad. My Mosul is already a city, the closest citadel to the Timurids is Trabizond. Should I find the Pope and gift Baghdad to him?

You need to concentrate all your forces in one spot and focus on one country at a time. Once you take a city of theirs destroy everything and leave. This does two things: First, it leaves them with a bankrupt city (it will rebel the next turn and go back to the previous owners) which they now have to support (Or you can give these newly-conquered territories to an ally creating a useful buffer zone, but that is pretty unrealistic and I cannot bring myself to do it). This will faciliatate the second thing which is them not attacking you. They won't have the money because you trashed all their cities (hopefully). This will give you time to focus on other trouble areas until you can amass enough men to actually hold those areas you conquer.

I use this strategy often as it takes a chunk out of your enemy's economy and doesn't make you stretch yourself too thin: you just attack burn the city to the ground and move all you men on. If you are a good general (only lose about 5-10% of your men each major battle) you can continue almost indefinitely with mercenaries.

Latest news.... I am in a very deep - -it .... I summoned 6 stacks of my best trained seasoned soldiers with generals in every stack including the emperor to face the Timurid as they were entering Anatolia. Now I lost, the emperor and the heir were captured and I had to pay for the huge ransom the other generals died and now I am very fragile inside the empire. My problem is that I dont have enough citadels and most of them are now huge cities.

    Your empire is hardly crumbling

You haven't seen a crumbling empire until you've seen my Sicilian game, where I'm at war with Hungary, Venice, Milan, the Moors, Egypt, HRE, and now France. None of my territories are connected by land - I have Tunis, Sicily, Naples, Corsica, Sardinia, Genoa, and Corinth. I can barely hold onto what I have, but after some "economizing" (giving up on holding onto Jerusalem and Acre - their garrisons were expensive, those troops could go to better use elsewhere) I'm turning things around. Thank god for Norman Knights, or I'd be totally screwed! Those guys are worth their weight in gold.
