    Default Macedon Hampoi

Squid. My bad. The fellow is right in the forum, this skin is missing. Could you put it in the Hotfix in the 'Tone' directory under models_unit\textures?

    the path is models_unit\textures\tone\macedon\(missing file)

Ignore the one above, and use this one. Put descr_projectile_new.txt in the 'data' folder as well. The guy was right. This works much better.

OK, I'm going to pull the hotfix until I fix it, I'll add these two files in, also I figured out how to get it to create shortcuts for files not included in the installer, so the new version of the hotfix will have desktop shortcuts for RS (using the new rome logo from your sig) for RTW and BI (if present).

I see the texture already there after I run the current version of the hotfix, so I'm not sure what the problem is, but I'll put the new one in.

DVK I've put in the texture (its the same one that was already in the hotfix) and the game is still choking on it. I don't know what the problem with the texture is since I can open it in Photoshop and view it with Irfanview.

Screw it then, just point the path in DMB to this then:

    type greek_hamipoi ; combat spear
    skeleton fs_s1_semi_fast_swordsman
    indiv_range 40
    texture numidia, data/models_unit/textures/new/UNIT_GREEK_HAMIPOI.TGA
    texture macedon, data/models_unit/textures/new/UNIT_GREEK_HAMIPOI.TGA <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
    texture romans_scipii, data/models_unit/textures/new/UNIT_GREEK_SICILIAN.TGA
    model_flexi data/models_unit/unit_greek_hamipoi_high.cas, 15
    model_flexi data/models_unit/unit_greek_hamipoi_med.cas, 30
    model_flexi data/models_unit/unit_greek_hamipoi_low.cas, 40
    model_flexi data/models_unit/unit_greek_hamipoi_lowest.cas, max
    model_sprite numidia, 60.0, data/sprites/greek_cities_greek_armoured_hoplite_sprite.spr
    model_sprite romans_scipii, 60.0, data/sprites/greek_cities_greek_armoured_hoplite_sprite.spr
    model_tri 400, 0.5f, 0.5f, 0.5f

    This should work.

That's why Tone does the skinning and I keep my meddling paws out of it.

Hey guys...thanks for inviting me here. I'll try to be of help. Anyways - the problem is with the texture itself. It was included with either RS or patch 10, but the problem is with the texture file itself. If you guys have it in tga format, then post that in a zip, and I'll have a look...but just like the one before - I can't even open the provided dds with the DDSConverter...which means the file is somehow corrupted. If the Macedon texture is similar to Pergamum's or another's, then I suggest working with theirs and changing into the Macedonian one, then converting it to dds...if that makes sense.

Dds converter just converts .tga files to .dds files. What you need is to download nVidias .dds plugin and use that (I think it works with GIMP and I know it works with Photoshop).

As I said I can open the texture, but it isn't being read correctly.

DVK I've also added the sprite line for macedon since it isn't in the current DMB entry. And I'm trying to track down those 3 text errors I saw this morning in the bugs thread, I've fixed the first one, found but not fixed the second, and so far have no idea about the third.

Actually, DDS Converter 2 does work both ways. But I'll check about the dds plugin too. If I can get it to work, I'll send you guys the new dds through this thread in zip format.

    DVK,

Something is screwy with the export_units.txt entry for carthaginian_infantry (Caetrati Light Infantry) when viewing the unit info panel you don't see the description correctly.

The two posts that talk about the errors are:

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showp...&postcount=123

    and

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showp...&postcount=127

Of the three errors I've fixed the marius one (stupid extra characters), can't figure out whats wrong with the carthaginian_infantry, and don't recognize the third unit.

Ok...here is the link to the corrected Macedon Hamipoi texture. Thanks for the tip about Nvidia's dds plugin. ;-) I do have Photoshop CS2.

Works like a charm! What was wrong with the old texture?

I dunno what was wrong with it. But here is the suggested "method" if you're using Gimp/Photoshop:
1.) Use Gimp/Photoshop to edit the dds texture.
2.) Save as tga in gimp/photoshop - not dds.
3.) convert from tga to dds using dds converter.

Those were my steps. If you saved it as dds in gimp/photoshop - that might have been the problem.

Also, in regards to the Carthaginian light infantry. I believe I figured out the "problem" people are having. Here is the code:
    Code:
    {carthaginian_infantry}	Caetrati Light Infantry

    {carthaginian_infantry_descr}
Sapping Ability\n\nThe Caetrati are fast-moving, versatile infantry. They are not heavily armoured, but rather equipped only with a small shield (caetra). Their weapons include both javelins and a falcata (Iberian sword), a deadly blade, able cut through even Legionary armour. They may not be the best trained troops, but they are cost effective warriors. They are one of the basic units available to generals in the Carthaginian\Iberian influenced world. They are best employed against enemy spearmen and, like other infantry, can be vulnerable to cavalry attacks.

    {carthaginian_infantry_descr_short}
The Caetrati are fast-moving, versatile infantry. They are not heavily armoured, but rather equipped only with a small shield (caetra).
And for this...notice the "Carthaginian\Iberian influenced world" part - it's looking for a "\n"...you have to change the slash to the other way around. I did it, and the description comes up fine now. It should read "Carthaginian/Iberian influenced world".

    later,
    Gersh
P.S. I have NO CLUE what unit the third one is...that guy made the pics way too small.

Sigh, I should have seen that!!

You don't actually have to replace the slash with one of the opposite direction, all you do is if you want to see "\" type in "\\" and this will show a single "\" in the text. I added and extra \ and it works correctly. (I think it looked funny if you had the wrong slash).

Well in the US we use forward slashes for stuff like that. And I'm still looking into the 3rd picture that guy placed...gonna try to see if it comes out in a custom battle. I'm thinking it's some kind of hoplite...the first set of words looks like "can form phalanx" in his cruddy picture. lol

I pm'd Vangelis and asked for the original ss to see if that helped with identifying the unit.

I'll give it a couple of hours and then I'll release the hotfix if we haven't been able to figure out which unit it is. And I agree it does look like some sort of hoplite unit, but I have no idea which. It doesn't seem to be any of the merc units Vangelis thought it might be.

**Edit** Nevermind if you saw the last message...forgot about having to add texture lines to test in custom battles. **sigh** Stinks not having it already set up to test out merc units.
