Which faction do you find most difficult to play in the campaign game? This poll is multiple choice so you can vote for as many factions as you like.
England
France
Holy Roman Empire
Venice
Spain
Byzantines
Denmark
Egypt
Hungary
Milan
Moors
Poland
Portugal
Russian
Scotland
Sicily
Turks
I voted Russia, huge territories to gain control of and convert to Orthodox religion. Weak under-developed towns + the addition of Mongol invasion.
Only + side to Russia is there immense ability to wreak havoc upon the enemy by Horse Archers but Mongols share the same army so it's effect is weakened...
Imo, Turks are the hardest, I'm playing them right now on LTC h/h. They start poor with isolated areas, poor troops (HAs tactics is your best bet), immediate threat from Byzantium. The best early chance for them is to take the Levant/Holy Land area, but then you've also got all the Catholic world coming at you with Crusades. And the thing is while you're fighting off crusades, the Mongols show nicelyin 3 waves with massive stacks, then you've got later the 'nice' plague and after that yet another eastern invasion - Timurids and their elephants boom show up.
So I find really hard, but funny time playing as Turks. If you want challenge this is a faction for you![]()

I think what makes the turks so hard, at least in my experience, is if both the Mongols and Timurids invade your lands.
I say HRE and Hungary just because they get off to slow starts while the Italians and Byzantines and Danes around them start off flying. Evening the ground is fun though

Yes, HRE is the hardest catholic faction for me too. While playing them< i've found diplomacy (establishing alliances with everyone, being pope's friend, getting your reputation high) is the key early on, and the good old 'divide and conquer' policy of ze reich is a must, otherwise you're like a sandwich in the middle of Europe![]()

I dont see templar knights on ur list, but they are the hardest.
god damn it! turk is not so hard why they chose that![]()
i voted for the hre. i thought they had a pretty awful position in general and when i played em i kept getting slashed by evey side and corner. and they have some of the most powerful nations around which like to attack you such as france or england.
Wow, I tried Hungary yesterday and got pretty far into it. HRE, Milan, Poland, and Venice all allied and attacked me.
I had no idea everyone thought was that hard...I thought I just sucked at it.

Simple question and one that's been asked before no doubt, which faction is most difficult to win as and why?
Also, which is easiest?
Thanks!
Moors. Difficult starting position, weak in auto resolve due to bad unit stats and bad late units.
The easiest would be England or Milan.
End of an era
Hardest- Moors, Poland, Hungary, Russia
Hard-Byzantine, Portugal, Turks, Egypt, Sicily
Easy- Venice, Holy Roman Empire, Milan and Denmark
Easiest would be.. like France Spain England, the 3 world powers lol
hardest? I dont know, Moors is pretty gay (even though I personally never played a campaign with them), also I personally do not like Byzantines (horrible position - everybody wants a piece of you - Catholics from the West, Muslims from the South and obviously Mongols/Timurids from the East.
Easiest? For me personally it was Scotland, England, Danemark, Spain, Sicily - simply because they have a rather remote region to start from and they can build up their strength for a fairly long time, before someone start harassing the crap out of them. Russia is also very good, but the distance between all the cities is WAY too annoying.
sharp contrast - HRE. as soon as you start, pretty much the whole wolrd is at war with you and attacks you from all sides. ouch.
He also has the guts to keep on misspelling "DENMARK". Don't think I have ever read a post from Czar to the end, 'cause of that faulty spelling of Denmark. It is either DANmark (In Danish) or Denmark (in English).
Easiest Faction: England (followed closely by Denmark, the Byzantines, France, Spain and the Italian Factions - meaning Venice, Milan and Sicily)
Hardest Factions: Hungary/Poland/Moors
The Byzantines are easy after turn 20, when the Hungarians are beatened and Venice is reduced to, well, Venice. The Turks normally stay off your back long enough for you to kill the Hungarians, in my games at least.

I'm not so sure about the hardest being Moors. You start off sharing the Iberian penisula with two factions who always go to war (at lesat in my games.) and the wealth of Timbuktu and the other one to the south. A general with cavalry can easily get around the desert and hire mercs to operate the siege equip when they get to a settlement. Any attacks on you by the infatry based westerners are slowed considerably, meaning you have time to recruit troops or convert towns when needed.
I think Moors have it pretty easy. Anyone on the Iberian penisula does, just play the other two factions against each other. Then pick up the scraps. Presto, you control Spain, with areas to expand north and south, plus easy access to the Americas when the time comes.
Portugal, their 2 cities are divided and you are in danger of going to war with: France, Spain, and the Moors maybe Sciliy because they like to do stuff like that.
