Whats worse than the poor girl being bullied and attacked is that the interviewer who is suppose to be showing the terrible treatment of the family actually attacks their beliefs.![]()

I think that the interviewer merely wanted her to expand on her beliefs and perhaps give the public a better understanding of atheism. Which is probablely why he switches to her father after she doesn't really expand fully.
Good thread though.
1) The creation of the world is the most marvelous achievement imaginable.
2) The merit of an achievement is the product of (a) its intrinsic quality, and (b) the ability of its creator.
3) The greater the disability (or handicap) of the creator, the more impressive the achievement.
4) The most formidable handicap for a creator would be non-existence.
5) Therefore if we suppose that the universe is the product of an existent creator we can conceive a greater being — namely, one who created everything while not existing.
6) Therefore, God does not exist.

But he was so hostile about it. Confronting instead of questioning. Even defending his point of view. I don't think that is trying to get a better understanding of atheism.
If you want an atheist persecution story, how about the girl who was kicked off a high school sports team because she wouldn't join their group prayer? And then when her father went to confront the principal about it, the principal tried to punch him and then when both men fell to the ground struggling, falsely accused him of felony assault?

Before the Christian supremacists among you dismiss the source, keep in mind that the resulting court case is a matter of public record. Including the part about how the atheist family was told that the trumped-up charges would be dropped if they took their godless daughter and moved out of the state.

A fair criticism, but considering that the entire piece is largely taking the side of the atheist family I think one can't complain too much. Compared to the actual bullying, his confrontational style is a minor issue.

Sorry, I didn't realize it was the same story because YouTube is blocked from where I am right now.

No worries, your link and the video emphasize different aspects of the Smalkowski case.

There's a nonspoken agreement between the religions because if you expose one as crap, you'd expose them all in one fell swoop. Just don't tell them this has already happened hundreds of years ago.![]()
Let me guess: you plan to pull the "it's perfectly acceptable because the Islamofascists are worse" trick.
Uh oh friendly fire incident. I'm one of the wizards in the TWC chapter of the Evil Atheist Conspiracy Mike.

Lets see here , when Christians actually start practicing Christianity and Islamists actually start practicing Islam then the world will be a much safer place for atheist's , deist's, agnostics and goat worshipers. God help us until then.
two things
one - @ Morte - not all Christians are bad, the ones who are politically active in the media tend to be the worst of the bunch, overshadowing the many fine works done by those who do not seek the limelight
and to add to Goat's last post
the girl isn't being degraded for being an atheist, she is being attacked for not being a certain type of christian
and that makes all the difference in the end, and it makes it far worse to boot

Check religioustolerance.org and their reporting of the Gallup poll results on religion. Atheists are the most hated group in America. More hated than homosexuals and even Muslims.
