Whats worse than the poor girl being bullied and attacked is that the interviewer who is suppose to be showing the terrible treatment of the family actually attacks their beliefs.

I think that the interviewer merely wanted her to expand on her beliefs and perhaps give the public a better understanding of atheism. Which is probablely why he switches to her father after she doesn't really expand fully.

If you want an atheist persecution story, how about the girl who was kicked off a high school sports team because she wouldn't join their group prayer? And then when her father went to confront the principal about it, the principal tried to punch him and then when both men fell to the ground struggling, falsely accused him of felony assault?

Including the part about how the atheist family was told that the trumped-up charges would be dropped if they took their godless daughter and moved out of the state.

The girl suffered a similar fate. She was kicked off the team twice, suspended from school and accused of threatening to kill a fellow student. I think you are referring to the same story.

A fair criticism, but considering that the entire piece is largely taking the side of the atheist family I think one can't complain too much. Compared to the actual bullying, his confrontational style is a minor issue.

There's a nonspoken agreement between the religions because if you expose one as crap, you'd expose them all in one fell swoop. Just don't tell them this has already happened hundreds of years ago.

one - @ Morte - not all Christians are bad, the ones who are politically active in the media tend to be the worst of the bunch, overshadowing the many fine works done by those who do not seek the limelight

the girl isn't being degraded for being an atheist, she is being attacked for not being a certain type of christian
and that makes all the difference in the end, and it makes it far worse to boot

Check religioustolerance.org and their reporting of the Gallup poll results on religion. Atheists are the most hated group in America. More hated than homosexuals and even Muslims.
