    Icon4 Unspecified error :-(

    Hi ive been having trouble with Medieval 2 s grand campaign where at random times i get an unspecified error message on the campaign screen sometimes it would ovccur after several mins but it now closes after seconds. The actual game works its just the campaign screen and i've been plating custom, quick and historical games for hours on high quality with no trouble at all. Ive reinstalled the game a few times and patched it and have also tried playing on lowest settings but nothing seems to help at all.

    Plz help i could really do with a nice campaign game right now

    ps. i have 1x gigabite and 1x512mb RAM sticks and i recall hearing somewhere that having two different sticks could cause this error

    Doesn't it have any more information than just "unspecified error"?
    Also please post your computer specs and are your drivers up to date?
    Run a dxdiag.

    Unspecified error could mean anything between here and alpha centauri.

    PS. Do you use Windows Vista? If so check out the vista thread.

    Well this has nothin to do with the subject but in Medieval II can't you choose different campaign timelines to start at like in the original Medieval game(high,late,etc.)? Now I would have posted this on my own little headline but you see I'm new to this site and I don't quite knoiw how to do that...some guidance be a little nice!!!

    Hehe, just press the New Thread button on the top of the page. Anyway, no, you can't. Unless you download the Sicilian Vespers mod. Check out the Medieval II Modifications forum.

    That feature, along with GA, has been removed from M2TW

    If you are mixing memory with different speeds and latencies then yes you could have a problem.

    If you suspected something why did you not remove the 512 stick/s and see how the game plays.

    yeah i was thinking that its just a simple matter of removing the stick right? no reinstallation or bios stuff involved cos if there is it may more hassle then its worth also im not using vista and im pretty sure my drivers are ok ill check though...

    No reinstallation or bios stuff is necessary but don't forget to restart PC after removing it.

    Hahah yeah I was thinking the same, "what the hell is this dude saying?!"

    And no you don't need to do anything else than remove the memmory stick. Get back to us when you tried it.

    I'm having the same problem. I'm 70+ turns in my campaign (using Stainless Steel) and I'm afraid I can't continue any longer. I'm defending Gaza and there are two full stacks of Egyptian army attacking it and 5-10mins. into the battle, I'll get an unspecified error message.

    Here's my full system.log file in case anyone wants to take a look -> http://www.divshare.com/download/786605-167

    Here's what I did just about an hour or so ago:

    * removed SS 3.2
    * removed M2TW
    * deleted the Start Menu-Programs folder
    * deleted the Program Files folder
    * ran CCleaner
    * rebooted

    After that:

    * installed M2TW
    * installed official 1.2
    * rebooted (was told to do so after installing the patch)
    * installed SS 3.2 (stand-alone)
    * defragged
    * rebooted

    My PC specs are:

    * 550w PSU with 38a on the 12v
    * Radeon X1950XT
    * AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2Ghz Dual-Core CPU
    * 2GB RAM

    I have NOTHING running in the background while gaming - no anti-virus program and unneeded services are stopped.

    I must've gotten this error message 3-5x during my campaign and it sucks because the Mongols have just arrived and I can't get past this error. I *could* try auto-resolving the battle and hope that it never happens again but I don't want to do that every time I can't get past a battle because it's crashing to the desktop.

    EDIT: ALL my drivers are updated - graphics card driver, chipset/mobo drivers, BIOS, audio drivers, etc. Also, I'm not using any audio card - just the integrated sound card that's in my motherboard.

    EDIT2: The mod I'm using is installed in the correct dir - C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War
