Default How to increase the number of soldiers in a group

    Hi everybody,
I would like to know how to increase the number of soldiers in a group (have 120 knights in a group instead of 60 for example). At the moment i am playing with the mod landtoconquer v2.3 and the people who did it found the way to increase this number, but I don't know how they did. Please help me, I'm going mad with it!
    Thx, Baaltazar

Are you talking about game settings? Or modding the file that control unit size?

if the latter, unpack your game and find the export_descr_unit file and look here:

    type Mailed Knights
    dictionary Mailed_Knights ; Mailed Knights
    category cavalry
    class heavy
    voice_type Heavy
    banner faction main_cavalry
    banner holy crusade_cavalry
    soldier Mailed_Knights, 32, 0, 1
That number in bold is the one you want to change for larger group sizes...

I just forgot to ask you how to do to unpack the game files, and which ones I need to unpack, and with what(do i need a special software?)

The unpacker came with the 1.1 patch, and it will extract every .pak file in your Packs directory. After that, proceed with Socal_Infidel's instructions. Note: this will ONLY increase the number of mailed knights in a unit, if you want others to be affected, you have to change their corresponding number manually.
But if you haven't done this, you could toy around with Unit Scale in Game Settings. If it's not on maximum already, you could try increasing it.

You may want to take a look at my small mod, Like Orange in Black Chocolate.

If you are playing LTC you find the export_descr_unit.txt file in landstoconquer\data folder, it is located in the main data folder if you've unpacked.

Thanks for your help but i already tried this method and it doesn't works. Now i'd try to modify the game in itself, not a mod, and i don't know if it's possible. I unpacked all the game and i didn't find any export_descr_unit file anywhere, plus i had to reinstall it cause it didn't work anymore(it was crashing i don't know why). Any idea? lol

If you've never unpacked before, your game is probably crashing 'cause you didn't read the readme file and did not delete these two files:

    descr_geography_new.txt
    descr_geography_new.db

If you unpacked correctly, the EDU should in the C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\data folder (or wherever you installed the game is if you installed it elsewhere).

Please read the unpacker readme before saying it doesn't work:

    - NOTE: Due to a timestamp check, the following unpacked files will
cause the game to crash and must be deleted before the game is
    launched:

    data\descr_geography_new.txt
    data\descr_geography_new.db
    Readmes: there for a reason.

Ok sorry but i'm a rookie in modding, so it's a lil bit hard for the moment... To unpack, do i just need to lauch the "unpack all" exe, or is it anything else to do?

I tried to do what you told me but nothing happens, the unpack_all.bat launches and seems to do what it's meant to, but when I check my folders nothing has been changed! the following is the command line I'm using, please tell me if it's ok:
    "C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\tools\unpacker\unpack_all.bat" --source=C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\packs\*.pack --destination=C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\packs --filter=*.txt

I did exactly what's said in the ReadMe and in your sticky...I don't know if it's important but I'm playing on a clean version 1.2 of the game (no mods installed), and my OS is windows vista. Please help me, I don't understand what's wrong with my game!
