Default Nightline- Does God exist debate

Nightline had debate between 2 Atheist (well 1 agnostic atheist and 1 atheist) and 2 Creationist . The video is aviable in several clips at the following website.

Watch it and post your thoughts and please try to watch most of it before lampooning one statement .

God has already been thoroughly demonstrated to be an unnecessary conclusion.

I already posted about this. Though I think it fell of the first page. There was some discussion about this already.

Wow, that debate made me laugh.

The Protestants looked really happy, though. Looks like they're fine with it. \

*EDIT*- Kelly has huge boobs. Nice.

*EDIT*- She was also a horrible debater, as were the Protestants. I like the last bit:

Brian: "Ockham's razor tell's us that the most simple solution is the most plausible, in this case being there is no God."

The response: " Uh... I think my partner has something to say on this."

The partner: "Uh... No, I just know what I believe, that God is infinite."

Brian: "Then why can't the universe be infinite?"

The partner: "Because that's what I believe".

And the debate moderator sucked. What a biased POS.

Hehe just watched it. In my opinion the atheists clearly won the arguement. At the end the christians looked like they had just ran 10 miles or something, while the atheists could have stayed there all night and corrected them.

Pretty good stuff though, needs to be more public debates like this.

Btw. Anyone notice that red heads glorious breasts? I had to watch the damn thing twice cause thats all I was looking at the first time lol. They have a better chance to convert people than anything the christians said.

"And I have felt the sudden blow of a nameless wind's cold breath,
And watched the grisly pilgrims go that walk the roads of Death,
And I have seen black valleys gape, abysses in the gloom,
And I have fought the deathless Ape that guards the Doors of Doom."

No man knows, or ever will know, the truth about the gods and about everything; for even if one happened by chance to say the complete truth, nevertheless one would not know it.

All the more reason to stick to empirical methods, because while they do not give you the complete truth about everything, what they do give you is testable.

Very true and I do agree. Any kind of truth we have the ability to find will, most likely, not be the whole truth. But this tid bit of truth we come upon will be enough for us to understand the situation better, and that's what counts. We can't go around assuming we will find the absolute truth, because we won't; so, we should instead try to understand things better, not know them.

Kirk Cameron or whatever said the reason God exists was because there is no such thing as a 'crocoduck' thus proving the theory of evolution wrong. Yes a crocoduck...

I find this very strange. As a Brit this sort of thing would never be put on our TV. I guess that is why Bashir is over there raking in the cash. We just accept other peoples ideas and don't try to convert them. The only people who do try and convert are "Witnesses". I see this as the US being confused about it's self. The US was founded by religionists who escped the old world for "pilgrimage" to the new. When you have a concept like that drilled in to you it is hard culturally to turn it around. Not only that but these were hardcore Christians who commanded bases in the first colonies. As an example of the US and UK difference to religion we started the Quakers yet to me all they are now is the nickname of my football team. Over in the US they are one of many massive religious denominations.

I have always wondered what the world would be like if the people who wanted every one else to convert to their way of thinking had their own way? Can you really imagine everybody on the planet going to church every Sunday and only agreeing with each other? I believe Christians need atheists and atheists need Christians as everything needs an opposite and without everything would crumble anyway. They both pride themselves in beng the right answer that IMO they are both wrong.

Even if "God" appeared before the most pious christian, how would (s)he know it was really god?

Having never met God, how would one know unequivocally that the thing/person before them was the real deal!?

I asked this to a person who had had a NDE(near death experience)...he said, "you just know"...lol...

I'm sorry, if you believe in God then you believe in the Devil...so why couldn't it be the Devil trying to trick you? If you believe that the Devil CANT trick you...why do you need God?

It's just something that can't be proved.

*edit: the redhead...where can I get one of those!?

I love it how that one lady in the audience tried to make the guy explain how cancer developes if god created humans completely perfect. And then he still wouldn't answer the question without waffling because he had no substantive argument.

Also the christians said they would not invoke the bible. EVERY response given invoked the bible. And the closer the debate came to the end, the more they relied on the bible and faith.

    Yes, nice boobs indeed.

    1st video:
    • WTF 3:33!!! Is that a man or a woman?
    • ARGH hot girl at 6:12!

    2nd video:
    • ARHARHARHAR, the universe was created by god, because the soda can was created by man?
    • This is stupid.
    • Yes, I put myself on an intellectual pedestal. What accent is this guy speaking anyway? It's hilarious!
    • This is why I can never argue with a Christian person about this. They bring up this nonsensical stuff that I feel I can't agree with, but for some reason not disprove, either.

    3rd video:
    • Boobies!! Terrible speaker though.

You have got to love that we are given a topic to talk about that involves everything from the birth of the universe to our own inevitable death and all we notice is that chicks tits! LOL. They are alright though. She was obviously making the most of advertising that atheists "get more"! "Join the atheists and I will get them out for the lads!!!" makes sense to me! Her voice is irritating.
