if you havent got the patch installed it wont be stable i shouldnt think, also have you got autosave disabled? thats the main cause of CTD's

The new version, which is coming out soon, seems to be remarkably stable to me, I've played for hours with no ctds.

I hope so. We're ssooooo close. It plays beautifully. dvk's new economy is just the right balance in my opinion, enough money so you can always be building, but not enough to be building everywhere. You have cash to play with, but not so much that you can throw it away.

And the new units... making a huge difference. And the revised 'slave' armies are just fantastic, a real challenge. I just lost my Getic faction heir and half a stack to a slave ambush within my own region! It really makes a difference when you have to send out scouts and watch your marches carefully... especially on the Big Map scale, it creates the feeling of moving your armies across real terrain. Forts and watchtowers and reconnaisance sweeps are now a vital element, because you need to keep your eyes open.

Which is much more realistic. I'm reading Dodge's 'Hannibal,' and he talks about how Hannibal always used his famous Numidian cavalry to probe ahead of his army and screen its flanks on the march. Part of why he was so devastating as a commander was because he always knew exactly what was going on around him. Which you'll need to do now as well, in this new Roma Surrectum, unless you want some very nasty surprises!
