    Hello, like topic.

First, English is not my first language, I'm sorry :/

Darth mod 8.1 was very fun I'm like it, battle experience so fun! thanks for awesome mod

    ok, problem begin...

When I play siege battle, I'm play at Carthage. I used War elephant for ramming the gate of city, it work good but..! it died in front of gate (it already breach the gate but it died in next second) so I didn't care because I have many many elephant.

Problem begin... that dead elephant was block my troops!!! not only block the path, it cause my troops struck... some of my troops can't move oh my dear god, it so annoying I tries to double click, try to drag out, try to reform unit, try loose formation close formation and any any others tries. It still struck. as the result, my troops "tired" "very tired" from struck at dead elephant that block the gate, close combat not even happen my troops become "tired"

I have problem with those crap elephants that block my troops not only gate, in the city battle, it block my path too...

any advance to solve this problem?? elephants in city give me very bad experience, not fun....

sorry about my English again, my English was crap

    hi there,
first off, dont worry about ur english. its good enough for me to understand.

2ndly, i was wondering if you could move the elephants and try to create another breach?
or maybe use other elephant or siege units that you may have to make another breach and continue the battle.

if not then maybe the only solution is to just exit the battle and take the defeat. i sometimes find it intersting to play on even with freak accidents as there have been times in history that a battle was determined by unforseen events, luck or stupid things.

    goodluck.

Talking about freakish incidents or stupid things, just look at how Phyrrus died!

Elephants in towns are not always a good idea!

I know of the issue with elephants but this is the only handicap to the unique mass settings of DarthMod for them.

    how did phyrrus die?
can you please tell me? im interested to know.

yeah, many events in history were determined by unusual events that end up having real great consequences.

a few off the top of my head
that german king drowing on the way to the 2nd crusade (or was it 3rd). after he died, most of the crusading army went back.

    another one:
napoleon's invasion of russia. althought russia is always freezing cold during winter, but there is scientific data showing that it was one of the coldest winter in the past few centuries. and it just happened to happen in the year he invaded. talk about luck.

i can think of many more, but its late.

plz do tell me about phyrrus.

Yeah, that emperor was Barbarossa, I enjoyed his story in one of Umberto Eco's book (I can't remember the name of the novel. It was not very historical, but at least enjoyable).

About King Pyrrhus... I don't want to spoil you the story with my bad english, so here's a link.

    http://www.e-classics.com/pyrrhus.htm

If you don't want to read everything just make a seach for the word "Argos". That's where king Pyrrhus died.

BTW, that story has everything: freakish incidents, absourdity, even an elephant blocking the gates! lol

The name of the book is Baudelino, and it's actually quite well-researched. However, the author is playing with the gap between truth and narration. The story of Baudelino's journey, though fantastical, is based on existing medieval myths. Baudelino and his friends are also fictional, but most other characters, as well as the events in which they participate, are historical.

Quite a good read if you are interested in Medieval history and myths, but somewhat boring in places.

    to mad hoplite

    Thank you very much.
that was a very interseting read. i started reading from argon as you said, but i found it so weird and interseting that i ended up going back and reading everything from the beginning.
    very interseting.

its quite amazing how history can take a new course by weird events.

e.g. old lady helping kill phyrrus.

    another thing i was wondering.
the article said sth about hannibal making a list of the best generals, putting himself as 3rd and phyrrus as 1st.
does anyone have the list? who came 2nd? alexander?

Not quite, although Alexander is the one missing from the list. After his defeat by Scipio Africanus, Hannibal took service with the Seleucid king Antiochus III the Great. With the defeat of Hannibal, Rome had her hands free to focus on Hellas. Antiochus, who had the same intentions, tried to oppose Rome but was defeated at Thermopylae and again at Magnesia. At some point, however, a senatorial deputation was sent to negotiate with the Seleucid king. Livy claims that both Hannibal and Scipio Africanus were present at this meeting. Scipio is supposed to have asked Hannibal whom he thought were the best three generals in history. Hannibal placed Alexander first, Phyrus second, and himself third. When Scipio laughingly asked where he would place himself if he [Hannibal] had defeated him [Scipio], Hannibal answered that he would place himself above all generals. Apparently, at least in Livy's version, this was intended as a compliment, to say that Scipio's value as a general was beyond calculation.

This problem you have in sieges is probably pretty realistic, and you should be grateful. A dead-assed elephant would certainly get in my way.

That was Fredrick I Barbarossa of the Holy Roman Empire (Germany), during the 3rd Crusade. He drowned while crossing a river in Armenia while on his way to Acre in the Crusader Kingdoms. As he was over 70 at the time, there was some question as to whether he drown as a result of his horse stumbling, or he had a heart attack and then drowned while attempting the difficult fording.
