    Default Usefullness of gunpowder units?

One thing I like most about the new balance in LtC 2.3 is the fact that archers beat gunpowder units. I did not do too many tests, but the Trebizond archers kill every gunpowder unit. That is historically accurate and fine with me.

My question to you: Does anyone actually use gunpowder units? If yes, why?
(Ok, parties with crappy archers, like HRE, Denmark or the Scots will use them, but the Italians, the Sicilians or the Turks?)

Gunpowder units also give a big morale hit to units they fire upon.

That's interesting. I thought it would be the other way around? I mean Napoleon was considering reintroducing bow armed battalions to his Grande Armee because he believed that an arrow volley on unarmoured troops in densely packed formations would not only score considerable casualties (and have a higher rate of fire), but also because of the terrible toll on morale of the target unit seeing thousands of arrows flying at them and their total inability to do anything to avoid it.

I use them whenever I get them.
They replace archers for me except in castles/cities since they can't defend the walls in the current state.
They are powerful, offer a big morale hit on the enemy and is cool as hell.
All the reasons needed for me.

They do much better at this in 1.2 than in 1.1.

I did a test earlier and they were horrible.
Will do it again, maybe it was a fluke.

Make sure you spread them out well, in 1.2 they will fire through the gaps in the wall.

Well they did that before tho even tho it has been improved however they are still a poor choice to have on the walls. Archers are still the best options for the walls.
I will continue to use my regular tactic and have the gunpowder units be on the street and gun down the enemy as they try to advance in a tightly-packed group towards the center.
The enemy routs very fast doing that even if the casulties are few. Naturally they regroup and try again but after a few times of that they become exhausted and no threat.

Oh yeah archers are still the best on walls.
