Default Giving the papal states a family tree?

I was wondering if there was a way you could add a family tree, to the papal states? I love playing them but it annoys me that I dont have a king and hier. I just have the pope and the family members that I adopt.. I could imagine that they would get a family tree if I added some family members for the papal states to start with, but im no modding expert so I do not know how to do that. Not even sure it would work..

Can anyone tell me how to do this? would really appreciate it.

Just for fun, I gave the papal_faction tag to another faction, and they did have a pope, but as soon as he died (of old age), the campaign immediately ended in a defeat. I never bothered to go any further than that, since I was only fooling around anyway. It's possible that the coding for the Papal faction will cause conflicts with the family tree.

However, if you want to experiment with it, edit descr_sm_factions.txt (found in the data folder). Under the papal_states heading, change has_family_tree from "no" to "yes". You can also change the princess line in the same way.

You can create a family tree for the faction under descr_strat.txt (found under data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign). Something like this within the papal_states section should work (don't copy and paste this, since it reformats when posted - green stuff has been added to or changed from the original code):

    character Gregory, named character, male, leader, age 40, x 145, y 91

    traits IAmPope 1 , GoodCommander 1 , PoliticsSkill 2 , GoodAdministrator 2 , Austere 1 , ReligionStarter 1

    ancillaries doctor

    unit SE Bodyguard exp 0 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0

unit Italian Spear Militia exp 1 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0

    unit Italian Militia exp 1 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0

    unit Pavise Crossbowmen exp 1 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0

    unit Pavise Crossbowmen exp 1 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0

character Guido de Avena, named character, male, heir, age 20, x 147, y 88

    traits LoyaltyStarter 1 , Intelligent 2 , Drink 1 , GoodCommander 2 , NaturalMilitarySkill 2 , PoliticsSkill 1 , GoodAdministrator 1 , ReligionStarter 1

    ancillaries bodyguard

    unit Pavise Crossbowmen exp 1 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0

    character Talentus Arlocti, diplomat, male, age 30, x 149, y 88

    traits GoodDiplomat 3

    character Nero Corrigarius, named character, male, age 16, x 147, y 90

    traits GoodCommander 1 , NaturalMilitarySkill 1 , PublicFaith 2 , GoodAdministrator 1 , Intelligent 1

    army

    unit SE Bodyguard exp 1 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0

    unit Mailed Knights exp 0 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0

unit Italian Spear Militia exp 1 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0

unit Italian Spear Militia exp 1 armour 0 weapon_lvl 0

    character Froderigus, priest, male, age 28, x 147, y 90

    traits NaturalPriestSkill 2 , StrongFaith 2 , PriestLevel 1

    character_record Adelasia, female, age 40, alive, never_a_leader

relative Gregory, Adelasia, Guido de Avena, Nero Corrigarius, end

This is some half-assed stuff I can't test at the moment, since I'm not near my home computer, but it should help you get started. For the character_record and relative lines, I suggest copying a similar line from a different faction and changing the names, so the formatting remains intact.
