    Default Script Error upon start-up

    Salve Ramon,
just yesterday I discovered v7 of IBFD, and since I greatly enjoyed v6, I thought this was something I must have.

Unfortunately, I didn't even succeed in starting the game. No matter what I do, I get the same error during the first loading screen:

"script error in ibfd/data/descr_building_battle/dbb_barbarian_invasion.txt at line 751 column 40. unable to open spot fx file models_building/spot_fx/spot_fx_BI_street_lamp.CAS"

I checked the file and found the line but not column 40, and BI_street_lamp.cas is where it should be.....the error occurs with or without scripts enabled. any hints?

oh, and let me praise you for all the options included to customize gameplay! GREAT idea! but which are enabled upon installing?

hmmm have encountered AND fixed this problem before... I suspect a faulty install? did u installonto a clean BI 1.6 and RTW?

I checked the file and found the line but not column 40, and BI_street_lamp.cas is where it should be
    could u tell me where?

this is not script related (at least not show-me script related)

will be making a players guide soon will list the defauklt options there, can't remember offhand myself

    btw, welcome to the community

I use JSGME, so before installing I de-activated all active mods and paid attention that no mod was active when using the IBFD shortcut.

The BI_street_lamp.cas is in the folder specified by the error message, which is models_building/spot_fx .

I might have to do a complete re-install anyway because I have a feeling that continually switching around all those mods caused some collateral damage to the regular installation, even though it shouldn't. But I'd be very glad to do this without a re-install, so if you have any advice ready I'd be really grateful. If it takes you more than a couple of minutes to figure it out just tell me, then re-installing everything will probably be less time-consuming.

    Thanks for your help!

Okay, I did a complete re-install and everything's the same....I still get the error message. Maybe I should add that I had to copy the content of the 'ibfd_temp' folder into the proper IBFD folder by myself, the batch file told me 'file not found'. so I copied it over myself, but the exact same error still shows up. If there's no problem with the installation, what could it be then? I still use JSGME, does it interfere with IBFD?

    thanks for any help....

I've seen that error before on FATW - it came when people installed or ran the mod incorrectly. Unfortunately, due to people never posting where they are supposed to combined with the awful search engines forums provide, I cannot locate the 1 or 2 people who had that specific error message to tell you why it occured - but rest assured it was a user error.

this is basically what the installer does:
1)copies an IBFD_temp folder to root folder
    2)copies a .bat file called IBFD_installer.bat
3)IBFD_installer.bat is triggered after the installer reaches the end
4)IBFD_installer copies the 'bi' folder and renames it to 'ibfd'
5)IBFD_installer copies files from IBFD_temp to ibfd
6)installer deletes IBFD_temp folder and itself

u mentioned u had to copy files urself, means most possibly a few things
1)u are not installing to the root folder program files\activision\Rome_TotalWar
2)there is no 'bi' folder, u probably renamed it
    3)the bi installation is corrupt

I am also using JSGME but NOT for IBFD7, there is no need to as it does not interfere w/ BI.

hope the problem is just as simple as one of these lisrted

    btw, thanks MoN

I *think* the guy who had problems with the Fourth-Age installer (which also uses a bat file triggered by the installer software) had interrupted the bat file or that it did not run as it should have done for some reason. One guy (though only one - another one) said that his computer OS was missing files that allowed the XCOPY to work in the bat file.

Anyway, probably will be solved by doing it manually if it is a problem outside of your control. Sometimes some people's PCs (though rarely) have problems with bat files so a RAR is always a good alternative and instructions for manual installation.

ok, I'll do that by myself then....you say the IBFD folder contains the ENTIRE bi folder? good to know.

u mentioned u had to copy files urself, means most possibly a few things
1)u are not installing to the root folder program files\activision\Rome_TotalWar
2)there is no 'bi' folder, u probably renamed it
    3)the bi installation is corrupt
    1) I pointed the installer to the root directory: E:\games\rome
2), 3) Since I re-installed everything just yesterday there actually is a bi folder. the vanilla game as well as all mods which are activated by JSGME work fine.

but I'll try your recommendations. thanks again!

Edit: HOORAY! It works! Maybe the .bat file is targeted to program files\activision\Rome_TotalWar so it couldn't find the appropriate folders in my installation? Anyway, this is fixable with a .rar version and an installation guide....

    Oh, finally....
