    Default Any good antivirus programs?

I just uninstalled McAfee, which was the reason my PC sucked, btw, and thought I would install a new antivirus program. Any help?

BTW, I've had avast!, and it slowed my PC down a LOT.

Try AVG. They have a free edition that works really well and you can upgrade later if you like. I used it and use AVAST now. No slow down with the AVAST on mine.

Yes McAffe had my computer on its knees, and once I got rid of it, it could breathe again! Yay!

On a side note, I tried Avast, and is working for me so far, hopefully thats all good, but one beaut of programme was Bullguard. You needa pay though, so I only got the trial coz im cheap!

I use and enjoy AVG, it's not a ressource hog and it actually catches viruses.

[rant]Unlike Norton 2007 which is a considerable ressource hog, a general nuisance and to top it off, incapable of finding viruses. I installed Norton on both my computers last february, it fried the hard drive on my 6 month old laptop and makes the use of my desktop nearly impossible.[/rant]

Edit: Yay my 100th post, i am now a journeyman.

I've just installed AVG, seems fine, scanning now and even then not slow.

F-Secure is probably one of the best, it has won several tests, such as the test in the Finnish MikroBitti-magazine. (Link to test).

It beat it rivals (such as McAfee, Symantec, Panda and Trend Micro) by a clear marginal, 0,5 points (10 was max) to the closest rival, McAfee.

Results (In Finnish, but you can still see the result for each program, it's bolded.)

I think a full version of it costs 80€, but when you have the old version you can get the next version for much cheaper. Oh, and you can get trial version of ithere. (3 months I'd guess).

I've used Trend-Micro Internet Security for the last few years after switching from Norton. Very happy with it. Easy to use and fast scans. Heard good things about F-Secure too. Also the current version of Zone Alarm suite is supposed to be good.

The only one I avoid now is Symantec/Norton. As others have said it is a resource hog. My company still uses it and my previous laptop (1.4GHz Centrino, 768 MB RAM) was slowed to a crawl when the AV was doing a scan. I now have a duo core laptop for work, and it's not too bad when it scans but I still think there are better choices.

Avast anti virus - i use it, havent been infected in years.

only downside is sometimes it updates during the middle of a game which causes a few mins of lag, but you can turn auto updater off

I found AVG after accidentally deleting Norton. Runs fine, updates daily. I've had it a little over a year and haven't had any problems whatsoever. Plus, the freeware version runs just as well, if not better, than some anti-virus programs you have to pay $40-50 for.

I don't think there's any AV client that doesn't update daily.

If there is, then for God's sake do NOT use it!

The Auto updating is one of the core element for a working AV client.

I'd recommend Nod32 - doesn't hog much resources and catches most virii.

AVG is ok, plus I just would suggest every couple of weeks, maybe months run free dr.Web CureIt! (it helped me so many times on various systems, it's just perfect for catching all the viruses). It doesn't need to be installed, just download and run, everytime before scanning it will check for new def. and download them, so it's great stuff. _http://freedrweb.com/
