Is hotfix 5 needed for this one because the link for hotfix5 appears not to work.

I screwed up last night and removed it by mistake. I'll put it back up when I get home. Sorry.

    And yes, it is necessary.......

I am sorry if I made the province and city changes sound confusing, but it's still jumbled. You got Commagene right though everything else is wrong.

Here is a picture of the needed changes:

    OK,
So far, wow! Just started a Roman campaign on M/M. Had two really long battles - nearly to the end of the minute timer against first of all a slave army in the north (two nearly full stacks) - good mix of spears, light cavalry, chosen swordmen, archers, peltasts and slingers. It was realy nerve wracking stuff. Second one was against a two stack army in the south - militia hoplites, hoplites, greek cavalry, rhodian slingers, greek archers and one unit of Tarentum hoplites. Again really long, very much on the edge as to which way things could go.

Two of the best battles I've had in RTW. Won both in the end but it needed all my energy to achieve that....the AI consistently tried to flank with units from the second stack.

Yep, the slave free peoples are certainly a force to be reckoned with now. You may find that you can reduce the spawn rate again, I don't know.

    I started a Greek campaign on H/M

Took ten years for me to unite the Pelopponese (sp?), well done DVK! Now facing the bland Macs. lol, wave after wave of levy and phalanx and greek cavalry. Please do them next, tone and AE!!!

So far, all units seem to be balanced well. Maybe the Greek Marines should have 80 men instead of 60 (large unit size). Other than that, well balanced.

Money is good too. I have 2 full stacks, and can build buuldings in most cities every turn, with about 10 regions. Considering Im in the richest trade area, money seems perfect.

Money is probably a little too easy as Rome (40000 at about 276BC) but I am playing on M/M I guess - I was put off playing harder by tales of whole stacks being wiped out! In most battles against the slave faction where I've been up against more than one stack I have lost at least half my stack, sometimes more depending. In battles against one of their spawned stacks I've lost about 25%.

Two of the best battles I've had in RTW.
I had the same experience, and this was just fighting the slaves! The better unit mix for the AI seems to translate into better tactics. Their cavalry try to turn your flanks, their line infantry are a force to be reckoned with -- the battles are much more involved and require better tactics. One fight against a large slave army played out like something out of Polybius -- they had a preponderance of heavy infantry and started to crack my line after a long fight, but luckily my superior cavalry routed theirs and just in time charged into the rear of their line and turned the tide. It was a real nail-biter and a blast to play.

Such a drastic improvement it's almost hard to believe this is the same mod!

See dvk, I told you it would make a difference

You may find that you can reduce the spawn rate again, I don't know.
I also think maybe it could be reduced a bit, but need to play a bit more to be certain.

My only other concern is whether the improved free / slave factions will drain all the normal factions so that by the time you come to fight against real factions, they're drained of resources.

Let's play our campaigns today/tomorrow and see if that happens. The reverse might also happen -- fighting the tough free/slaves might lead to the creation of larger, more experienced armies for the real factions.

dvk, do we need to run newUI.bat after installing this over the last hotfix?

The other thing is that I think that peltasts and archers still possibly put up slightly too good a fight against cavalry? What's other people's experience.

Archers do seem to be fighting too well in close combat, I noticed that.

I think its their moral. Their just too high. Most arches have 27 moral. and skirshmers have high 20"s too. I m decreasing them to 15. lowering melee attack. I did made them even more uneffective close combat with cavalry.

i think bang on 20 would perhaps be a better value - especially for Roman Archer Auxilia and Light Auxilia, who after all had pretty rigourous training!

That is true, some archers should stay high. I really don't think lowering their stats is the answer, but most have too high moral...especially the lower end ones. Armoured and better equipped archers...well, you expect them to be better.

Drtad...the reason this map naming thing gets messed up is because the name you see on the map is not the real name of the region in many of the files. And if you don't give me the EXACT spelled correctly name of the regions you are refferring too...I can't find them.

What you need to do is right click region name, and then say "this region is now named 'xxxxxxx' (and it has to be exact, cause I have a hard time finding a misspelled name in a file with 400 names in it....there was no Gordyene, or Cordyene in the files....you had misspelled 'Corduene'), and it should be named xxxxxxx. Then, this city now named xxxxxxx needs to be named xxxxxx. Please remember, 400 names...must be exact. I did the best I could.

You're picture doesn't help much. because I don't know what those regions are named NOW, as opposed to what you want them. So do this:

    Region xxxxxxxx to xxxxxxxxxxx
    City xxxxxxxx to xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Yes, for Hotfix6 you do need to run UI.bat.

Ooops, that might explain the wonky unit cards I was seeing...
