Can anyone tell me if Saxons got any new units added?
Have you thought of starting a Dark Ages mod for M2TW?(that would just kick ass!)

Ok I played them, some things need fixing. If they were supposed to have superior infantry i really dont see how they have it.
Saxon general looks like little gnome compared to his guards.I think I liked old general more.
Also they lack archers...
Fighting with the Wisdom, the Bosnian Kingdom
Now the lack of quality troops beside melee infantry is quite historical. Remember v6? They had just the standard oversized bowmen unit as ranged attackers which didn't pack a decent punch anyway.
And if their infantry has been nerfed it's a good thing, too. They were so ridiculously overpowered in v6 that the game was basically a cake-walk especially once you'd teched up to those axe-wielding lunatics with AP. Not to mention the BG hearth troops, real nightmares if you ask me.
When playing custom battles with Saxons vs. Romans (the only faction/s with comparable infantry) I had to triple the AI denarii to have their troops cause at least some damage to me. Saxon infantry in v6 was really cheap and killed EVERYTHING in their path. The utter lack of siege equipment for the Saxons was nothing to be mourned since no unit could prevail against them on the walls anyway. Once my v7 works I'll have to give them a go....
Edit: I got it to work and have to admit that the Saxon troops have gone through a major change. Now all they have besides peasant-type troops is spear infantry of different quality. So let's see if they really fare that bad vs. those petty Romano-British...!

I have played v6 and trust me, taking brittain with Saxons was no cake walk.I than played, H/VH.I lost many campains with them until i changed many strategies. Now i play M/H and i am still puzzeled at some stuff.
You get quickly in minus, Franks in evry game i start declare war, their melee units are quite comparable to saxons, yes i dare say equal.Especially Schola Infantry(it was long time ago, i think its that one)
Than there are Huns and sometimes some germanic horde infesting your territory on run from them.
With all that, that little meager force in Brittain is sacrificed as they stand no chance to current garrisons there. They are wasted, and if not used quickly they will bleed your early economy.

Eeeey, what happened to Gesithas!? They were the shock troops, you know twohand weilding guys!
I just build settlement King hall and i cant make them!
Fighting with the Wisdom, the Bosnian Kingdom
the gesithas can be recruited by building smiths... from where u can also recruit Cnights
actually my mistake here is to assign them to a foundry w/c the Saxons couldn't build
u should be able to recruit archers from ur large towns, no need for an archery range (these guys are hunters, u don't actually need to train them...) once u build the government building
I also didn't change any of the stats of the Saxons from v6, so maybe RB became a bit stronger?

I guess they are pretty much the same..the only thing that buggs me is that 3 cavalary units is standing still and slaughtering my 4 Ceorlas units and my general. Is that supposed to be so?
Cavalary rely on impact and charge...repeat until successfull. They even charge directly at them. Also there seems to be some kind of graphic bug with Ceorlas.Once in battle their weapons vanish, poor guys fighting with fists. No wonder they get slaughtered
Also i tried your suggestion so Saxon get gesithas...no gesithas unfortunaly.I will try again, but still i doubt it...

u are supposed to build the higher level smithy before getting the Gesithas, anyway will make u a EDB that can get gesithas in lower level smithies *will take some time)
or u can copy this line
to below this (line 1628) use notepad++ to be able to see the line numbersCode:recruit "saxon champions" 0 requires factions { saxons, }
Code:smiths_workshop requires factions { barbarian, eastern, hun, nomad, roman, } ;and not building_present_min_level market great_forum { capability { weapon_simple 1 weapon_bladed 1 trade_base_income_bonus bonus -2 requires not resource iron trade_base_income_bonus bonus 2 requires resource iron recruit "equites catafractarii" 0 requires factions { roman, } and hidden_resource italia or hidden_resource italia2 or hidden_resource europa or hidden_resource asian or hidden_resource grecia or hidden_resource iberia or hidden_resource gaul or hidden_resource britain or hidden_resource carthago or hidden_resource alexandria ;steppe ppls recruit "hionite spearman" 0 requires factions { roxolani, }definitely NOT supposed to be like that. what cavalry unit was this? do u remember?I guess they are pretty much the same..the only thing that buggs me is that 3 cavalary units is standing still and slaughtering my 4 Ceorlas units and my general. Is that supposed to be so?
that would be a model problem... thought I fixed that in the patchesCavalary rely on impact and charge...repeat until successfull. They even charge directly at them. Also there seems to be some kind of graphic bug with Ceorlas.Once in battle their weapons vanish, poor guys fighting with fists.? can easily be fixed
No wonder they get slaughteredgood one... of course u know it doesn't matter, the combat stats are dependent on EDU values not whether the model has a weapon or not.

Thanks, will try it.I would build higher lvl smithies if it was availble, but it isnt, even whn i buld Kings Hall.
It was RB heavy cavalary units from Londonium, cant remeber their full name.I wouldnt mind much if they had gotten me flanked or charged my units from behind. But direct approach in shield wall(not even charge) I was quite irritated.Just to note, they were without general. If Vortigen was there, wielding excalibur and giving them moral bonus + his stars, i guess i wouldnt whine about it so much...but bad ass daddy wasnt there.
Hehehe...Yup
Edit: Did as you explained above, copied under line 1628, no gesithas.Just one more thing...shouldnt saxon be able to build stone walls, or did you disable that function for them?

Pretty plz, fix fix...little fix or push in right direction for correcting, so i can get gesithas...thanks![]()
Fighting with the Wisdom, the Bosnian Kingdom
I want to add in, among other things, all of Swabian's fixes for the next patch so will take some time...
but for now what you can do is:
1) look for a file named 'export_descr_buildings.txt'. u will find it in '...RTW/ibfd/data/'
2) make a backup of the file (just in case)
3) open the file. I suggest using notepad++ but simple notepad will do.
4) change this
to thisCode:foundry requires factions { eastern, roman, } ;and not building_present_min_level market great_forum
u can also choose only to make saxons be able to build the building in w/c case change 'barbarian' to 'saxons'Code:foundry requires factions { barbarian, eastern, roman, } ;and not building_present_min_level market great_forum
Cheers![]()
