First of all i thank anyone who is going to read this aar;i may have only made it for fun but know that it represend my undying love for Rome:Total war and this awsome mod!!!!
for starters i play this campaign in hard/very hard level, magnus mundus map!Let us begin then:
P A X R O M A N A
Rome has a destiny to rule the world...It may now appear as only a dream with all those powers around the mediterannean but its true. For now though we must concentrate on survival rather than greatness; Pyrrhus, king of Epirus landed recently on our shores to "defend" the greek colonies...
Summer 280 bc:
Our young consul leads his army onwards to Tarentum;he hopes that the greek army under Purrhus can't ignore the threat posed on his city and he believes that battle is inevitable. But something unexpected has happened;King Pyrrhus has ignored and outmanuevered the consular army and instead he attacked the city of Capua. At the time the city was totally undefended because its garrison has been used to bolster the numbers of the consular army. The battle ended in a roman defeat and V.Brutus was killed during the streetfights. As that wasn't tragedy enough, the entire population was lead to captivity. The senate seats in Rome and angrily desides to send another army against Capua while the existing consular army moves against Tarentum.Purrhus, seeing the threat against his two cities sends a part of his force as a relief force to solve the siege of Tarentum...
The battle of Tarentum,279 bc summer.
Our army sieging Tarentum was intercepted by the small relief force and turns to face the new threat. The batlle is short and bloody;the relief force is quicly decimated and equites cut down the last routing men while the main force turns to face the oncoming city garisson. It has a balanced roster;phalanxes, light cavalry and many skirmisers. Our heavy infantry, our hastati and principes in particular try to stop the advance of the greek phalanx while our equites, triarii and our consul's bodyguard attack the enemy general and his cavalry as he makes a move against our velites. There a small slauhgter occurs;finally Dicaeus of Epirus drops dead and his forces begin to scatter!the first victory of rome is a fact with a good percentage of casualties;only 368 of our men perished to nearly 2000souls of the enemy force(One epirote full-stack-the city's garisson plus the reinforcements).Withought its garisson the city falls to our hands and is wildly pillaged;our men need gold and women to be happy...
Amogst the populance we discover a portion of capua's enslaved populance...funny,the once slaves are now domini...
Battle of Capua,279 bc
Pyrrhus, being informed the luck of tarentum ralies his men and attacks the second consular army. The battle was a massacre;the epirotes started the battle when their phalanx attacked in a double line formation(!).Our consul, sensing the danger for his unexperienced hastati, orders them to move to the flanks leaving the heavy fighting to his principes and triarii. In the flanks of the formation, especially in the left, the fighting was truly hard;but in our good fortune the enemy had only the lightest of cavalry allowing our brave equites, being reenforced by our consul's boduguards,to rout greek cavalry and skirmishers.Even Purrhus routes but to our missfortune we cannot attempt to kill him;the epirotes send in their elephants to the fight and the morale effect of those beast is uncredible;even the breavest of men break rank in their fightening sight. So the consul desides to move close to the main force while he orders two reserve velite units to try to take down the elephants.A few moments later some good news arrive: one phalanx unit routs from the center and some moments later the elephants run amok trampling friends and foes alike! But then Fortuna turned her back on us:our consul is killed in a charge to the rear a phalanx, our faction leader was undone. But the soldiers were angered by this turn of events and started fighting even more valianty!!! In the end,the phalangites starting realising that they were alone against all but,to their honour desided to stand still and fight to the death as true men.The casualties were large on both sides;866 romans, including our consul died that day as 1562 men of the greek army did.
-i misstyped the number of the epirote casualties...>

[SIZE=3] Nothing much has happened after the heroic victory of Capua. Its mostly a time of peace and rebuild for the Republic.Although we have driven the Epirotes out of Italy, much have to be done to secure the future of the Republic. The senators consider the next step to roman greatness;the capture of the provinces of Linguria,Venetia and Cisilpine Gaul are the most approved course of action but some minority of the senate proposes the creation of an anti-hellenic coalition in order to prevent any of the three factions in mainland greece become a true superpower- and a threat to Rome of course! Also many say that the gold mines in Illiria might be the thing to get out of our economical crisis(i have 10,000-15,000 gold in the start of each turn.)Finally, after endless delegetions in the senate the conscript fathers believe that we must capture the three northern provinces from the free people. Moreover the increacing power of Syracusae in Sicily(nearly three fullstacks!) must be somehow controlled if we are to have some influence in the island and if we want to take it without much bloodshed. In that end,an envoy of the senate is sent to the Carthaginians;a trade treaty is proposed and assurances that any needed econimic help needed will be given happily in the name of friendship amonst our two nations...bah,they are our minions and the think they have a safe alliance

.Lastly,it is desided that it is of vital importance the three greek factions remain in all times hostile but alive in order to avoid any uneccesary competition in greece and the east in general...

[SIZE=3] After succesfully claiming Liguria and Cisilpine Gaul, our Republic faces a new, more barbarous threat;the Gauls always seeking opportunity laid siege to the town of Mediolanum.General L.Fronto lead his legion from Liguria to Cisilpine Gaul and immidietly confronts the Gauls while the decimated army of consul Amulius Brutus ralies forth to meet the threat. The three armies met at a plain north of Mediolanum.Neither force though had the will to initiate the battle at the beginning, whitch gave time to the consul to reach the battlefield. When the Gauls realised they were encircled by two roman forces started to retreat towards an edge of the battle ground but were cuted of by L.Fronto's men. Then a huge massacre happened;nearly 800 Gauls(i don't remember the exact number but it was close to 800) were killed or captured and then executed(by crusifiction...

) to 59 roman casualties.

[SIZE=3] All of northern Italy is in the hand of the Senate and People of Rome! The gallic threat was solved by stationing L.Fronto's legion in the Province of Linguria. From there the defence of the newly added provinces will be a piece of cake...Furthermore the senate desided to construct a fleet in both sides of Italy due to increased pirate activity(these bandits made a fortune by stealing Roman gold the last 3 turns)
270BC summer
After another victory against a small gallic incursion(229 men dead) some disturbing news arrived the senate;it seems that our ally in Greece,Macedon, has manage to nearly wipe out the Greek cities(only Sparta and Crete in mainland Greece have not fallen to the macedonians). If the macedonians subdue all of Greece then the will have the manpower and coin to be an overwelming power in eastern mediteranean.Having this in mind the noble senators have desided that five full legions are to be sent to Greece to take over Illyria,Epirus and Aetolia, currently owned by the kingdom of Epirus. The conscript Fathers estimate that such an action may lure Macedon to betray our alliance and declare war before the can economically afford it.If we are lucky we may be able to capture Larissa or Thesalonica, crippling our foe's economy.
