Default Iraq: Teenage girl stoned to death for loving a boy of the wrong religion

The moment a teenage girl was stoned to death for loving the wrong boy

A 17-year-old girl has been stoned to death in Iraq because she loved a teenage boy of the wrong religion.

As a horrifying video of the stoning went out on the Internet, the British arm of Amnesty International condemned the death of Du’a Khalil Aswad as "an abhorrent murder" and demanded that her killers be brought to justice.

Reports from Iraq said a local security force witnessed the incident, but did nothing to try to stop it. Now her boyfriend is in hiding in fear for his life.

Miss Aswad, a member of a minority Kurdish religious group called Yezidi, was condemned to death as an "honour killing" by other men in her family and hardline religious leaders because of her relationship with the Sunni Muslim boy.

Wow, I believe this news has been discussed in the other thread for a while now. It is strange that a Moderator could have missed it.

I post things I find interesting in the news. If you don't like the thread why are you replying to it? Or do you, seriously, feel a need to post on every thread? :hmmm:

There are plenty of threads I ignore. Try it. I may lower your blood-pressure!

Oh, and I don't see where this was already posted. If I had, obvisoulsy, I would not have started a new one. Could you provide a link? If you can I will gladly merge my thread with it or close my thread altogether.

This is absolutely disgusting. Simply horrible. The callousness required to stone a teenage girl to death over half-an-hour is appaling.

I don't usually get overly upset about things in the news - I have to confess - but this really strikes a nasty chord.

I honestly don't see the point in threads like this, there will be no good debate in here, no one is going to condone this, there will be a few "thats bad/evil/nasty/wrong/barbaric" replies, then this thread will die.

Or it will be yet another Islam bashing thread, in which goes round in circles and the same easily refuted points are brought up in every 5th post.

Oh, and the news story was barbaric.

Now this thread is gonna be clogged up with peoples thoughts on the act when there's already pages of it in the other forum...

I was gonna ask if this thing could spark some kind of retaliatory response from the Sunnis but the article already covered it...

Another good example of Islam . . . and to think that Islam is called the "religion of peace and tolerance"

But in the end it is only pure hypocritical to call it the "religion of peace and tolerance" when it is a religion made by a general that decapitated prizoners.

The same like a butcher would preach vegetarianism I still have to see that one!

Islam doesn't encourage killing girls based upon who they date. As I have said before, it is tradition of the area far before Islam even came to that area which encourages such behavior.

    This confuses me:
“They said she had shamed herself and her family when she failed to return home one night. Some reports suggested she had converted to Islam to be closer to her boyfriend.

Was she Muslim before she met the boy, or not?

People, stop bashing Islam. It's fundamentalists or tradition of the region (Not sure of which, think it's the latter) that's responsible for doing this. They're the equivalent of the Inquisitors, and burning of "witches" in Catholicism. It's a zealot thing, not an Islamic thing.
