Default PC crash and the loss of ALL SPQR data forever!

While coming up with a wonderful breakthrough that allowed more than 500 per unit and revamping the hardcoded AI to the source I accidently spilled Ice TEA on my PC and fried the computer, ALL is lost forever and servers where destroyed!

    <JOKE>

Actually what happen is I did spill Ice Tea on the PC and fried the MB. Now some may claim I did this on purpose to get a new PC and they would be right, except for the fact I didnt think of that at the time I WAS removing a tag off a cable and it snapped causing my hand to knock the Ice Tea on top of the PC which has wonderful venting for cooling the unit with Fresh Mountain water Ice Tea.

Never fear Hard drives were protected and saved, and SPQR is backup'd to the hilt!

But I am using my back PC which is a P4 1.7 423pin with 500mb of PC800 ram. lol But it serves to look on the net, needless to say for the next week until my new system comes in I will NOT be working on SPQR nor digitalizing movies or another else serious for the matter. Except Ebay BIDDING.

My New system I am getting is a PCI-E board that will allow me the Geforce 8800 GT and 2GB PC6400 DDR2 Ram, Since I might as well spend extra and upgrade that stick with old AGP channel. I may get a new Dual core CPU E6600 or something but I still think my 661 P4 3.6 is ok, I think the new video will do wonders for RTW battles since the old card I had did very good.

Of course this left me with 4 Matched Stocks of REV2 PC3200 DDR 800Mhz ocz PLATINUM Ram for sale if anyone wants it? The Ram was not in any danger of the spill only the CPU section. lol But since the newer boards take anotehr type of Ram..... there you go.

If anyone is interested its 500mb each stick and they are Matched 2-3-2-5. I was looking for $50 for each Pair of matched Ram, The sets are basically new never OC'ed and were bought about 6 months ago at the most. If you intested let me know, I accept paypal and can go through Ebay.

I do have a BFG OC Geforce 7800GS AGP 256mb for sale also, but AS IS it DOES boot and seems OK but because of water getting on it I would not want to say its perfectly fine(never know a yeatr later?). I bought it about 6 months also and I am willing to sell for $50 its a steal of a deal if you are low of cash and need a good card and willing to take a risk that something wasnt damaged down the road. Personally for the price its work the chance since at the time I PAID $300 and now its about $200.

Yes I Thought the title was catchy. ;-)

But really if you know anyone looking for Ram and a ASIS VC let me know, its a great deal for anyone strapped for cash but needs something better than the Normal Crappy stuff.

Well.. wow, "sorry?" to hear about your "mistake"

There's a chance the X1900 will not be here for another nine months or so, in which case I might buy the 7800, if it fits my computer. I don't know what kind of slot the X850 XT uses, do you, since you used to have one?

I assume it should work with the rest of my machine, AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 (2.6ghz) and 2 GB Corsair RAM, don't really know the specs on the ram.

This is not a certain thing though, I don't know if my parents would want me to buy a video card "privately" and I also don't know if I'll need it cause I might have the x1900 this weekend.

But if someone else wants it please don't wait for me!

    OH MAN!

Lt, the thing that almost turn me crazy was reading about cracking the game to allow 500+ men per unit! It would be a true original wonderful incredible cool 1:1 scale! Full 480 men cohorts on the battlefield! Aghhhhh!

    Drooling, crying, a bit depressed...

Its AGP 8x which your 850XT should have been. Same slot different card. Like I said the card boots but you never know how long it will last, then again you dont need it to last long until you get your other card. ;-)

I can post it on Ebay also, just most wont buy an AS IS Card on Ebay normally too many cards out there and most want the newest thing out there.

Miki, that was a joke all that stuff is hardcoded. I just wanted to fool the reader for a couple of seconds. ;-) lol

Nevermind me, I've got the x1900 now so I don't need the video card. I will do some SPQR playing tomorrow to see how it works.

Thanks I thought is was pretty good, funny thing is this type of thing has happened to some modders and all their files were lost. :-( I've been in the business so long that I BACK everything up all the time, about the only thing I could lose is a couple days worth of Favorites etc.

Garnier, Glad to here it, Let me know how the card runs? I'll let you know how RTW likes the 8800GT I got its OC'ed out of the box! Plus what I read I can OC it another 20% safely! Love the low heat of the dual core stuff. lol

What did you get? Dual core CPU E6600 ? RTW engine is limited and even with dual cores and high end VCs it still ramdomly ctds with some combination of quick save bug and playing SPQR on Huge settings I got my first ctd for weeks when trying to fight a battle with 6 AI reinforcements... I guess the engine doesn't handle them very well ;-)

hmm, for me, most of the time even AI (enemy) reinforcements get delayed, and won't show up until at least 3/4 of the battle time limit is up.

That's very odd indeed... have you enabled unlimited_man_on_battlefield option in the the 'preferences' sub-directory of your game main directory?

I don't use battle time limit, so maybe that also behaves differently with reinforcement armies

Well I did fight a battle with a senate's legion so far, max all settings, AA x6 AF x8 and it ran steady 18-20 fps, with about 8000 men on the field. That was quite amazing. But I will probably do 2x or 4x AA to be more stable and better FPS. I also haven't overclocked yet as I just got it.

Actually I havent bought the E6600 yet, I still have the 3.6 661 I bought 6 months ago. I plan on OCing it to about 4.2 or so. But first I am curious how the new bus, ram, and Video card effect SPQR gameplay. If I can play SPQR better than before then I wont be in any rush to get the E6600. But I will find out later. My equipment shoudl be in today IF UPS drops it off. lol

Then I have to make sure non of the stuff is defective out of the box, I hate that as I cannot test properly because I dont have extra items lying around. Still not bad to upgrade as what I seen the new Vid cards are pretty hot. I got the MSI OC 8800GT at 575mhz/1700mhz 320bit, 320mb 96 Stream processors for $290 not bad for the price. And What I heard is that this models overclocked well at 660mhz and 1800mhz or more!

I had to get the 800mhz DDR2 because of the board, but its PC6400 and what I READ on reviews overclocks well into about 1100mhz lol Its OCZ platinum, I have had good results with that Ram.

Over all with all the Units and the graphics I need a more powerful system, as I found I had issues with certain graphics turned on causing more FPS loss.

Garnier, Glad the Card is working, I read where that is a pretty good card, I never got to test it like I did on the early models, but I heard its performance in SOME games is identical to my card. But over all the VNividia have the Floor this time.
