My favorite Al Sharpton story + How does Al Sharpton make money

This is direct from a cop who was at the scene (he was driving the captain and he was a former undercover narco who had graduated with said captain = this is entirely true)

Al Sharpton does not actually live in NYC, he lives across the GW Bridge in Fort Lee, NJ - key piece of info

the Rundown

At around 2 AM on a weekday morning, a 19 year old black male with a criminal history of fair repute was caught mugging an old black woman in a Manhatten subway terminal.
The mugger rigorously resisted arrest, pulling a gun on the officer - the cop managed to subdue the mugger, and got him facing a wall with the cop's gun trained on him from behind - at this point the cop misfired and blew the muggers brains out, killing him.

Al Sharpton received a call soon after from one of his police sources - Sharpton immediately mobilized his team, got in his town car, not his limo, and began the long trek into Manhatten. On the trip, Sharpton made phone call after phone call to every press contact he could reach, telling how a cop had "murdered" an unarmed black youth, a former honor student who was returning home from a visit to his grandparents. The press, jackals that they are, took the bait. It is now around 2:45AM in the timeline.

Halfway across the GW bridge, Sharpton received a phone call from a police source at the scene in the subway terminal.
Al immediately had his car turned around, called his press contacts to say there was no story, and proceeded home to Fort Lee, where my guess is he had a drink and went back to sleep.

Why would he do such a thing? A young, disarmed (Al would have said unarmed) black male had been "ruthlessly" shot in the back of the head by a police officer.... why did Al turn around......?

He also makes money through media appearances. He's always good for a show, so he charges a good buck every time he comes on to Hannity and Colmes, etc. Everyone likes a clown. It's no coincidence that he and Jesse are on the scene of every "civil rights battlefield". Witness the Duke scandal. Hmmm, and did they apologize for that or return the money they made of make life miserable for those falsely accused students?

He ran Raw Talent Inc for years, but did not pay income taxes throughout the 1990's. Plus He gets money through organizations that use him as an activist. He was also indicted for lying about his income in the Pagones defamation suit, for which he still owes for defaming an officer. And I think he was in trouble with the IRS for not paying income tax in 1986.

Those officers go through a lot of fire arms training, I don't think it is very likely that he acidently pulled the trigger and shot him. How can you acidently pull a trigger?

It's quite easy, really, especially with a hair-trigger (although I doubt cops are allowed to use those). Your safety's off, your finger is ready to squeeze the trigger (since the mugger had brandished a gun at the cop) - anything can happen. A sudden noise startles you, for instance. Yes, cops go through a fair amount of firearms training, but it's really easy to accidently squeeze a round off without intended to do so.

But yes, it's pretty obvious that the officer was black. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson do an immense disservice to the name of Martin Luther King simply by breathing, anymore. The mere mention of their names causes many people to discredit the equal rights movement; it'd be like GW claiming to speak for all Republicans everywhere (despite the fact that he's rather unpopular even in his own party).

I think that is unfair. Maybe less so with regard to Sharpton, but Jackson works incredibly hard for the black community in the U.S.

Jesse Jackson does a greater disservice to MLK than the Rev Al. Jesse will point out at any opprotunity that he was there when MLK was shot, i suspect he pretty much ran out on the balcony and put MLK's blood all over his shirt.

Not everybody was against the War, especially not at first.

Secondly, to quote a Vietnam veteran; "We didnt lose, we left." Might sound like semantics, but the distinction is important, IMO.

I'm less of a fan of Sharpton than I am of Jackson, but I still maintain that Sharpton has, in his life, done more good than harm.

You can't deny that there are many racist police officers, and I would say that the work that Sharpton does has possibly made some of them think twice before treating black suspects in a racist way.
