    Default Hardware help

    Hi,

I'm planning on upgrading my PC, and I've got some problems deciding on what to get.

    What I've got now is:

    P4 2.0 GHz
    512 MB PC2100 DDR (2x256)
    HIS Radeon X1600Pro 512MB AGP

So what I mainly want to upgrade is my RAM, but I've found that DDR only comes in lower speeds AND is more expensive, so I thought about getting a new motherboard in order to use DDR2.

My problem here is that I'd like to keep my graphics card, (well, not buy a new one) and most new MB's only got PCI slots.

And I'd like to not invest in a new CPU right now. But I will eventually want an E6600 (-or equivalent).

There is no motherboard that would take both my P4 and an E6600 is there?
Should I just go for broke and get a new CPU already?

And is there a (good) motherboard that will take both DDR2 and has an AGP slot. (And if possible a PCI-e slot too, for future upgades?)

    Thank you for your time.
Any help would be very appreciated.

I'm sorry if anything is unclear, but just ask and I'll answer.

Have you looked at some of the online electronic stores? On most of them you can buy 1 GB of DDR 2100 memory for under a Hundred dollars. At some places you can get a 2 GB of DDR2 for under two hundred. Memory is fairly cheap right now.

You are right about MBs not having both AGP and PCI-e graphic slots.

You have to ask yourself how much money you want to spend on upgrading your current system and how much you will spend on a new system. That might be close to each other if you are going to build the new one yourself and use parts from the old one.

With your system I personally would just go for a memory upgrade, keeping it under a hundred dollars, and save my money for a new MB, CPU, memory and Video Card in the future.

    Good Luck.
