Default Comments? The pursuit of peace is one full of compromises

Well, I like how these topics go, with the phrase and then just start talking about it. I have a follow-up one I'll ask when this thread is dying or near completion.

The quest of peace, if I phrase it differently, is one full of compromises. We cannot achieve a lasting peace by forcing conditions, but by making concessions, equally, that everyone is satisfied (to the best they can be, or everyone is equally miserable...) and that there is later something to build on.

No group of people must feel that another group of people pose a threat to them. In order to do that, you must make everyone equal and eliminate the human instinct to look for ways to gain power and popularity. Some people will always be unhappy and willing to fight to improve their lives. This planet simply isn't big enough for us all to live peacefully on it. We need a war that cuts us back to 500 million people or so.

    Both wrong.

Compromise is the art of delaying, not avoiding conflict.

Conflict on the other hand, is never to be hoped for.

There is a third solution. Engaging is serious dialogue, which implies merciless debate on the faults of everyone, and serious self-correction, is one step.

Humans are the only species on the planet that commit suicide.

It's funny how we claim to be more superior than other animals.

The realization that you can't have everything and peace. You have to give up things, mutually, knowing that in doing so you are given the most reasonable visage of peace.

Maybe 'sacrifices' was a better word...
