What do slaves do other than give population growth to your cities? I haven't enslaved a city yet because I always need the money and public order from exterminating. Do they give a money bonus or something?

Yes you get a NICE Trade income from selling them in SPQR. Its better to Sell slaves than Exterminate in SPQR. You get more money in the long run its just a little slower.

Ok thanks! I just enslaved Rusicade
And I just fought a 45 minute battle which resulted in my Legio II killing 6750 macedonians.. That was tedious.
no change in the initial bonus though, right?
does the resource still only last 20 turns? unlike vanilla, i no longer see the slave resource icon (pair of shackles) on the map, which would tell you the number of turns remaining if you moved the cursor over it.
Ok I just checked and all the slave icons are in the descr_strat file, so you must have missed it or its slightly hidden, I think a couple may be too close to the Cities and get covered up a little, others can be blocked a little by forest. But I looked and they are all there which means when slaves are taken those Icons pop up. The best way yo test is just lose and retake Genua and then take prisoners and see if you see the icons.

ok, yeah. i didn't bother with testing genua, but i did just discover the "icons" on a few cities so far. i use "icon" with quotes because they're all located too close to the city, so the city wall graphic obscures them. you'll get the cursor popup message only if you carefully move your cursor to the north or northwest of the city tile. in descr_strat the coordinates of all the slave resources are only one y-value higher than the city itself.
let me tell you what i found out about slaves...
in my current 6.35 campaign i managed to retain control of my 10 starting cities...w/ a spy in lilybeon i noticed a population of 20200 (rounded up) citizens...all my cities, w/ the exception of messana had that round 5200-5300 citizens each due to micromanaged population controls...i had 95000den. in my treasury...so the plan was to sack "lily b", enslave the populace
(1000 slaves added to each town), and have all towns upgrade/ expand their
status and knock down the treasury some all in one swoop...well, i took "lily b" that turn, enslaved the pop. and 2500 people go to genoa, arretium, arminium, and asculum...i wonder what went awry...then later i went to check the amount of trade monies made from the mass enslavement and come to find out it was only 17 den...yes, thats right 17 denarii per turn...is this consistent w/ reg. play or am i experiencing some form of corruption in my files???...thx, hannibeau
Thats Odd. something not recording right, because Slaves are a resource of 20 and gold is the only resource higher! Should be more than that a turn, its hard to see how much the slaves give you in RTW their system for stats stinks they could have learned more from Slitherine on stats, they told you how many men you have lost to date in the campaigns. ;-)
Also you can only transfer slaves to cities with governors. I will test the slaves out more after I get my New PC up and running, I will also fix those Icons to be away from the cities a little more.

lol i just found the original legion in my cellar will play now....![]()
thank you Lt for the quick response...did not know about "must have governors in each province to accept slaves"...been playing RTW since inception and never noticed or known that little factoid...so should i in your opinion erase everything then reinstall or just deal w/ it for now???...also have some other gameplay issues as well that i will post as a new thread...give me a couple of hours to do that as i am currently alongside a ship in my tugboat (lol)...thx again, hannibeau
I got a questions, what is the black shield for "imitation Legionnaires" for?
Are they for none Romans like Numidians who recruit those Numidian Legionnaires or was it Armania who recruit them too????
Or is it like an auxilia symbol for when the reforms come about?
As I have only seen them in Africa so far.
I have numidian legionaries in my campaign. They are like legionaries, for the romans, that you recruit in africa.
