Stuborn Problem with B.I Patch 1.6

For some reasons I really can't find , it's imposible to patch my Barbarian Invasion 1.4

to 1.6 ..I don't know what to do ; I've uninstall everything and reinstall : the problem remains

It started with Troy mod ; everything went ok at first; I had my BI patched 1.6 and the set up was fine, than I play few rounds of the campaign mod, than I decided I wanted to try another faction. So the mistake was to uninstall Troy instead of ereasing my campaign....than after that it's impossible to reinstall BI with 1.6 and than play the Troy mod (I ve got a message error when I try to patch it saying sthing crazy ; that the path 1.6 is used in order to put patch 1.3 up to 1.5
Anyone could help me understanding is very welcome

What you need to do is uninstall everything. Meaning deleting also all registry entries connected to RTW.

First uninstall everything, RTW,mods, etc. Then get CCcleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/). Do a deep registry scan. Delete all unecessary files.

Then look manually

start-run, type regedit. Press F3. Look for any value named CA, RTW, 1.3, 1.2, 1.6, BI. Delete them all. Now you can re-install and re-patch.

(Always backup your registry,CC will prompt you to do it...)

The error message when I run the patch 1.6 for Barbarian is...something like that : This patch is made to upgrade version 1.3 to 1.5 you can download 1.3 at ....etc I really don't get it , because it worked before , now my BI is 1.4 and I cannot install Troy mod

right now I am Desinstalling everything and reinstalling RTW 1.0
the sequence should be .... 1.2 than 1.3 than I install BI upgrade is automatic to 1.5 on RTW than 1.6 for BI , correct me if I'm wrong
....should I shut the computer in between ?

You install RTW. Then BI. Then 1.6 patch. Then Alexander.

If you don't have BI: RTW then 1,3 then 1.5 then Alexander...

Remember: every time you install something even if you uninstall it traces are left in the registry, here's where your problems come from. It drove me crazy too, sometime ago...

Done ! that was crazy..;I spent more than 6 hours removing things in and out
I still don't understand how I did it ?! but now its patched 1.6 and I can play..untill the next time
can you tell me What am I suppose to look (words) after in order to clean the registery ? , (i've been after RTW ; Rome; BI is too short; Activision etc... it didn't work out)

Rome is good but watch out not to delete Macromedia and NeroMedia

Look for numbers: 1.2, 1.6 also CA. This location is also interesting:
C:\Documents and Settings\(your computer username)\Application Data
and
C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Local Settings

Also do a general search (not registry) with any folder containing those numbers:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\DirectInput\ROMETW.EXE438AFB5A00EAC503
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\DirectInput\ROMETW-BI.EXE438AF4C400EAB504

Is there a way to make somekind of image Ghost of the installation of the game ; so the next time I can recover more easily ?

I dont know how you guys managed to do this. In the past, I only had RTW (The original one without expansion) and I patched it to 1.5 in order to play the mods. Now Ive uninstalled it, but Im trying to install RTW Gold and the same message pops out. 'An Earlier Version of Rome - Total War has been detected. Please uninstall this before installing Rome - Total War Gold Edition.'

Ive installed CCleaner, and I have searched for values with those tht u have stated above, but I dont know what to delete! there are some keys that when i attempt to delete, a warning pops up and says that it would cause instability. So, I dont know what to do.. I've deleted everything with the word Rome on in my Hard Drive, and still the error message pops up. Ive also deleted a few ROMETW keys.

And now that I look at this thread, its been a year. Are any of you still active? If not, Is there someone else who can help me? I would appreciate your assistance

The way around the problems you've encountered is to keep a clean umodded version of RTW (RTW 1.6 RTW BI 1.7) patched to the latest level on your PC. Simply copy the whole game folder to another one and apply mods to the new folder.

If you want to uninstall the game and then later on re-install then you still need to go down the registry clean up process.

You still have traces of RTW in your Windows registry - you need to remove all of them. Start looking for 'creative assembly' or 'sega'.

There used to be a thread over at the \Guild that went through the steps to remove all traces of the game but the links to it appear to have vanished.

There are two keys i found. theyre default keys in the Sega and creative assembly folder. The data: value not set. do i delete this? It prompts that it may lead to system instability.

There have been numerous links to it in this part of the forum - try the search facility.
