DVD problem, PLEASE help :(

Hi guys. Recently my PC has stopped playing DVD's properly. When I run them on windows media player, I get sound but no picture, and when I try to run them on nero showtime, I get the following error message : "Internal error. Cannot build graph. The application may be in installed incorrectly."

well anyway.. I think the problem MIGHT have been when I installed the divx codec for mpeg videos, but im realllyyy not sure, ive uninstalled the divx codec and so im still getting the same problem.

Reinstall the codec.
Remove the codec entirely
Try a different codec
Make sure the DVD isn't at fault.
Install a new Media Player with its own codecs.

Does it work fine with data?
To eliminate a hardware failure you could rip a DVD with nero (ie: copy it to your harddisk).
If this works then it's a software problem, and removing and re-installing all involved drivers/software will probably solve it.

yay, finally fixed it. I downloaded an mpeg 2 codec, that did the trick.

when i instaleld divx is musta have overwrote it something, but I dont know much about that kind of stuff, but atleast I have fixed it

Yes, standard DVD's are encoded with MPEG2, so that makes sense.

That strange because DivX isn't a replacement for MPEG2, and neither is MPEG4.

MPEG2 is used for very high quality movies.
DivX and MPEG4 are used for slightly less quality, but much smaller file sizes.
