To HELL with Chris Paolini!

I somewhat HATE CHRIS PAOLINI! Honestly, how can anybody such, such, DRECK! It's dreck, unoriginal, uninspired dreck. The only reason Eragon was published was because Chris' friggin DAD was the publisher! Eragon is just a bunch of rip-offs. Of Star Wars, of the Dragonriders of Pern, and of Lord of the Rings. Arya - Arwen, Urgals - Uruks, Eragon - Aragorn, PLEASE! His work sucks. And what's worse, is that everyone is heaping praise upon praise on this crap. Hell, people are saying Chris Paolina, a 15 year-old PUNK, is better than the likes of C.S. Lewis, Robert Jordan, or even the master himself, J.R.R. Tolkien. Chris Paolini is not better than any one of them! Hell, comparing Paolini to Tolkien is like comparing a candle to a bonfire!

While you are too extreme with your hatred towards Christopher Paolini, I agree that he did kind of copy many other works of art. Although it isn't technically plaigerism either, since he used his own words and plot.

Shouldn't this be moved to the Arts Forum?

While I actually dont like the LOTR books, i can only agree with you on this matter. His work is just a copy of earlier, much better, works.

I think he is 19, not 15. And I think he deserves praise for the success he has achieved. I don't think he himself has ever claimed to be better than Tolkien, or anyone else.

What the hell does Dreck mean?

"Dreck" is a word I thought up that's a catch-all word for basically anything of inferior quality. Usually something of inferior quality that everyone says is good. That's dreck.

C.S. Lewis is the master and superior to Tolkien.

I must respectfully disagree. Though I enjoy the works of Lewis, Tolkien is just a far better writer. His prose is more advanced and well-worded than Lewis' ever was. Tolkien's world-building skills are also far more developed. Just look at Tolkien's 'bible', the Silmarillion, thousands and thousands of years of culture, myths, language and legend. Tolkien literally created a modern day Epic Cycle, a mythology all on his own. Tolkien's masterpiece, his opus dei, the Lord of the Rings is literally just a tiny, tiny part of this mythology. When viewing the entire legend, Aragorn and Sauron and Gandalf just aren't that big in it. It is the tip of the iceberg.

I've never really gotten into Lewis that much, though I enjoy his Narnia books. And his Christian allegories are just a little too obvious for my taste. I still like him as a writer, but I don't like a whole bunch of Christian themes shoved down my throat while i'm reading fantasy. If I want Christian themes, i'll read the Bible or go to church.

Anyways, yes i'd say Tolkien deserves the title "The Master". As well as his other titles "The Professor" and "The Father of Modern Fantasy"
