Default What's Wrong With The Game???

Ok, so I installed M2TW about 3 months ago and it worked nicely, however, After a while I decided to add some Mods, with ultimatly forced me to do a fresh install. Now I'm playing with vanilla, waiting for 1.2, however the animations for spying and assassins seem to be broken. I.e, I click "spy" and the video thing starts to come up but the screen freezes then goes black (saying "M2:TW has encountered an unspecified error and will not quit"). This has also happened for the videos for papal election as well. I tired uninstalling and re-installing but it didnt help.

    My question is:
    1) Do I need a fresh install or is it my disc?
    2) Can I turn off movies? (to be lazy)
    3) any ideas why this has happened to prevent it from happening again.

    Thanks, Kirk

P.s If I'm not replying it's cos I'm sailing, I will be back, and thanks again.

P.p.s I'm anything but a modder, so small words please , and sorry for the spellings

Perhaps there are some files missing. For example, I tried to change some skins with backups of my files, didn't work, reverted to the original files, and at entering battles it threw an unspecified error. In the log, it said some files were missing...

The game is somewhat plaqued by unknown errors that occur in game. I think the errors tend to decrease over time with playage but I'm not sure. I think the 1.2 patch might fix it but you should probaly just live the bugs, unless its gets really bad.

Um, that's really not very helpful advice Imperator. The game is not "plagued by unknown errors" that "decrease over time"! What plague of unknown errors, and how does that relate to the OP's post?

Anyway, if the game worked fine before you re-installed, ie, the videos are all that is wrong and they worked fine before with the mods you were playing, then clearly there is nothing wrong with the game, but, your installation. I would 1) uninstall the game again 2) before reinstalling, delete your SEGA folder 3) reinstall 4) update your video drivers and DirectX.

Thanks all, help much appreciated, so theres no way to remove movies because on Portvcale, there were none for spying.

    Anyway, thanks again

P.s If I delete my folder but export my saved game and import back in later, will that file continue to be bugged?
Also, I think this is supposed to be in "technical help", sorry for anyone who gets all touchy

EDIT: I did a 'fresh install' i.e. deleted the folder then re-installed and started a game with HRE where I kille dthe pope with some elephants and assasinated 4 people with the movies , however, on the second papal election, it crashed again. Is this a common error, e.g. a general code problem that has just come up perhaps?

oh, and finally the log just says "unspecified error" at the end

Have you tried the tips in the sticky 'unspecified error' thread in the technical section? I too had that error and I wasn't able to manually play battles anymore.

I too tried uninstalling but the files were hidden and thus weren't deleted. I then came across that thread and the first solution (deleting the hidden geography files) worked for me -more or less. I say 'more or less' because even though the game is working again, performace has really gone down hill. I often suffer from low fps which I didn't have before. Another thing, when the AI on one map marched into the mountains the game suddenly skipped tons of frames, it really looked weird. Thankfully it doesn't happen in each battle but when it does it often drags down the fps as well, really low <10 and becomes nearly unplayable. It's definitely not a hardware issue since I've played battles far larger before I first had this error without any fps issues and so I assume this is somehow related.

Anyway, in case you haven't read this; http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=73931

thanks Daros, I had read the post before, while desperatly searching for an end to my Cardinal Genocide problem but had forgotten about it after the game crashed again and had thought it was only because of the patch. Is that correct

Wil try and post back results on a Edit

    Thanks, Kirk
(Still wondering why there were no movies in Portvcale tho, and how I can do this
oh, and on my HRE game, it only crashed on 1) the papal election, 2) assassinating Frodregius (the papal candidate) and spying on a papal diplomat... related problems....?
And finally, is it likely 1.2 will help, or even SS3.0 when I get them both?)
