    Default (Amendment) Voting Medal

    Proposer: Gaius Baltar
    Supporters: Leonidas the Lion

An amendment to add a medal to the constitution "Community Medals" Article which shall recognise and encourage the members who vote consistently on various Curia mandated polls. Nominations shall be proposed by the Curator or Speaker of the House and voted on by the Parliamentum.

    Voting Medal

Any member of the Total War Center forums may be nominated by the TWC Curator to receive the "Voting Contributor" medal from the Parliamentum. Nomination shall be based on levels of contribution to the TWC Curia voting process.

Nominated members shall have their nomination posted in the Camera Proponentum and will be moved to vote as per the procedure in Section 2 Article 3. Once moved to they shall be voted upon for a period of one week and require a simple majority of non-abstaining votes to achieve the "Voting Contributor" Medal. Nominees who fail their vote may be proposed again after a period of three weeks.

    That is a good idea.
    I support.
It will also get many citizens that are inactive to vote.

If we had such a medal, I would rather have it as an award for general Curial participation then just a recognizition who vote often.

Exactly, just pressing a button doesnt prove any thought went into it.
Well, if I, Belisarius, the Black Prince, and you all agree on something, I really don't think there can be any further discussion.

But it seems to be too complicated for many Citizens, I mean look at who leaves a voted. It's almost always the same cast of characters, it only seems to change when new Citizens are promoted. Even then many of these new Citizens run back to either the Thema Devia or their personal modding project as soon as they are given their badge.

I don't think that simply voting is enough to earn a medal, I still think that some way must be found to increase participation. Perhaps Ragabash is on to something here, this may be a more effective idea.

That might be true but many citizens have been inactive for awhile and we have the basically the same amount of voters.
This will bring the inactive citizens back to vote.

I would rather 5 people read the arguments and vote after making a fair evaluation then have 100 voters vote just to get a medal. What you are proposing is that we bribe them into taking part in a poll, into pressing a button.

happyho, the posting of "voted" is totally incongruous with the number who vote; its what, half, a third, of those who vote who actually post. I agree, however, with Ragabash; we want to use a measure that requires thought - debate in the Curia does, voting (and especially the posting of voted...) does not.

That's true, but looking at old threads in the Curia showed that it was always the same members that were participating in the debates. The same is true now, I also don't believe that there should be a medal for voting, or even for participation in the Curia.

I do however think that any measure that is brought forward to our attention that tries to deal with the problem of not enough Citizens participating should at least get the benefit of the doubt before we all assume that it's not an effective idea. During discussion other ideas may come forth that do work. Then that would have meant that while the original idea was not the one we went with, at least it was the idea that brought forth the solution during discussion.

How would you measure that, though?

We couldn't, so at best we'd be measuring participation in debate I guess.

First of all what I said in that post is that there is room for changes maybe including ragabash's suggestion about Curial participation.

I'd have a Curial participation medal, anybody can just vote and gain a medal, no thought involved. Whereas posting, proposing and supporting bills requires a lot more thought and generates a lot more Curial activity.

This is the route I would take as well. I would leave the actual act of voting out entirely. If a personal gets involved in the Curia enough, of course they will vote. But do they seriously engage with proposals...? That's where the real need for recognition is at.

    Gaius' idea was rough.
There is always room for changes.
Maybe a voting and Curial participation medal.

How's this: Replace the name with "Curial Participation Medal", and the first paragraph change to:

Any member of the Total War Center forums may be nominated by the Curator to receive the "Curial Participation" medal from the Parliamentum. Nomination shall be based on levels of contribution to the Curial process in any area, including but not limited to activity in the Camera Proponentum and Camera Suffragii.

Disagree strongly with the proposal, i think the Curia needs to get away from a self-congratulatory mindset - a medal for pressing voted is too much i think. Doesn't the Patrician rank already recognise Curial contributions?

No, it recognises "contributions"; one can become a Patrician without ever setting foot inside the Curia, in theory.

Contributions can be Curial contributions though - cant we just leave it at the CdeC medal?
