Lets make a thread about strategies for each of the islamic factions in campaign......whether it be use of jihad, holy land defense, or even migration!

There is nothing i love more than fighting catholic crusading armies on the shores of egypt. love that, your coupld hundred horse archers taking on massive armies. defending the holy land is generally pretty easy, beat their general and you cause a mass route, round them up with horse archers. very fun.
As the Turks I try to make the Seljuk Turk Empire and following this the Ottoman Empire. So what I will do is take over Anatolia, Mesopontia, and the Levant. I let those pathetic Chatholic factions nab my cities...only to be taken back by my superb house archers which they lack.Than come the nomadic invasions. I use my seige strategies and beat the crap out of the Mongols and Timurids. And in final swift stroke with my newly build Jasinarry units I go off and conquer the Balkans, Egypt and North Africa.

Hold Alt while clicking a target. You will notice the bow turns to a sword. And I would suggest taking of Skirmisher mode so they don't run away.

in one of my current campaigns and i'm egypt....perfect position. i take the holy lands without any resistance and build up my economy from the rich resources. then i start a war with the moors and the turks. why? to expand my empire. i only siege territories of theirs i want. and then i'll take one or two i don't want, make them become my vassal with the promise of giving them some regions back and a few bucks. now i have all muslim factions under my control with an iron fist. when jihads are called, i allow my client kingdoms to attack while i be reinforcements. this really helps them not to break the alliance and they always will give military assistance when crusades are called on your regions, i.e. Cairo, Jerusalem, Antioch. I've gone on 3 jihads and have defended Jerusalem twice already thanks to my massive Islamic empire. Currently...the pope has commissioned another crusade on Jerusalem now that my sultan recently died. His nephew is the new sultan in Antioch and his son in Jerusalem. But I own the Mediterranean Sea, so I'll risk my navy to sink all crusading ships I can. Besides, it's a long way to march to Jerusalem and I have armies ready to die for their sultan. lol

Right now I´m playing the Moors. I´m normally used to Catholic factions, where I at the most have 1-2 enemies against me (defencive playing, VH/VH). Now, without provoking, I´m fighting against 8 enemies: France, England, Portugal, Pontifical States, Sicilia, Milano, Venezia and the Greek-Romans...
I have the Iberian peninsula and northern Africa, including the "conflict-magnet", Tunis. I´m holding ground, but they give me a really hard time! The conflict spotes are of course northern Spain and Tunis. Maybe if I give up Tunis I will also reduce the amount of enemies? /Cerxes.
I am playing my first non-European faction (also Moors).
Question: For Crusades called by the Pope failure to complete the mission is clearly spelled out; what are the consequences for a faction which does not join a Jihad?
There are no consequenses as far as I know, only that you miss a great oppertunity to get a few nice ancilliaries for your general, experience for your troops an a new province.

I'm using something derived from it, playing the Turks on 1:4 timescale, meaning I'll be meeting the Mongols by about turn 40.
I am playing as the Turks. In my campaign I just followed up on the outcome of the Battle of Manzikert and took the Byzantines to the cleaners. After I had taken Constantinople, Corinth and Thessalonica, the Hungarians broke our alliance and I took Bran and Bucharest. 2 turns later the Pope called a Crusade on Istanbul and now I have fought like 10 fights versus crusaders in the Balkans, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary.
It is just so much fun to play as them, especially when I am ABYSMAL with all the Catholic Nations. Bring it on!
When I own the city, I am free to rename it. Aww right, I will name it back to Constantinople just for you, that might confuse the Crusaders in the process![]()

Does anyone know how the game mechanics work for determining which settlements you can declare a jihad on?
In my previous Turks game, after I took Constantinople I was given the option to declare jihad on Paris, Arhus, and Edinburgh, in addition to the usual cities like Jerusalem and Antioch.
I went and sent a jihad army to Scotland just for the novelty of it. But honestly, wtf?
It seems to me that a jihad is far better than a crusade because you still get the ancillaries, traits, title after a general's name (Abu Bakr the Holy Warrior) and the mercenaries that go with it, only they aren't any consequences if you don't join, and you have as long as you wish to join! No turn limit!
