When I am playing games and I try to alt tab to say like Firefox and see something, when I go back, it keeps flashing to the desktop. Why is this happening? I have updated my drivers and Direct X. I am using a Nvidia 6800.

Not all games like to play nice with other apps. Plenty simply won't let you Alt-Tab. I'm not aware of any way to help that.
I get that with some games. I found that if you tap alt+tab as soon as the desktop has flashed you can get to it (so you alt+tab once, the desktop flashes and you immediately alt+tab again). May take a few tries but you should get there.
I had a NVidia 6800 (256MB), recently upgraded.
I used CNTRL-ESC to get to the desktop. In my case the 6800 was often very fidgity about reloading RTW under those circumstances, and would often lock up or go to bluescreen. Partuculalry if there was a pop-up in the middle of RTW, like a McAfee notice, anything like that.
Had to turn off all notices that produced pop-ups, and when running RTW I generally closed everything else.
