Have you any idea how terrible a sentient robot would be? Autonomy is the power to say "No" to any and all commands.
All it has to do is just happen to read one of those lovely editorials which say that Humans are nothing but viruses and scum, and decide that the best course of action is to kill us off.
And you better hope it doesn't get connected to the internet. Once it's connected, it's gone forever. You can't catch it. It'll be making replicas of itself so fast, you wouldn't believe how fast it was working.
Why? Simply because it can. You can't program or give a autonomous robot morals, because then it would be a restriction, hence not true autonomy.
And this belongs in the science section.
I think it would not be that bad or out-of-control if it could be autonomous. After all, humans can say "no", and they can be convinced to say "yes" even to the most insane things. I think a robot with artificial intelligence would still suffer the same mental flaws and naiveté as human intelligence.
Ah the disaster described in Terminator is becoming reality lol.

Finns to the rescue!
How absurd men are! They never use the liberties they have, they demand those they do not have. They have freedom of thought, they demand freedom of speech.

The problem is that all these idiot scientists don't think about the consequences of their actions. They just want another stupid achievement to their resume.
As I understand there was no link to better AI.
The idea of robots with free thought is interesting, but I think it is actually far from happening soon.
But it's really a difficult question, if the robots will "take over the world". We could make them look just like us more easily than make them think like us or better on higher levels, but they would still be controlled by us.
But I'm not saying that robots with free will, will be developed. I'm just saying that defintely not now.
Seriously, are people so stupid as to create a better being than us? What happens when Artificial Intellegence becomes intellegent enough to realize how superior a robot can be to a human.

Just because they can create a breathing robot doesnt mean they can give something free will.
However, the way scientists are going, they will never come up with an autonomous entity. Boolean logic will never work.
Reminds me of Sulu.
There's a definition for that type of Intellegence.

I'm not scared of any metal robots. Sure, they can have laser beams and pulse cannons...
But one refrigerator magnet to their metallic cranium and you have a 2 ton paperweight. Bah...
Who said they needed a physical body to get around? Who said they even needed to get around? They've got the internet!
But it would try to implement itself into the internet.
Who says we would even build it a USB port?
