Here's an album I compiled from a nice battle I recently played:

The SS6.4 battle AI is very well made but the later units have such high attack that it is still easy to abuse the AI. I had a couple of fun nights giving the AI a hard time, you can see the results below.

Why play as anything but the Turks? They are indestructible even in early game.

The Italian factions probably have the best late technology. Death to the AI stacks!

The Byzantines are an average faction except for the flamethrowers. Their missile units are not strong enough to stop the AI stacks from crossing the river and then the routing units flooded their artillery that could no longer shoot - still, they did ok. The bombards took out 2500 men apiece.

The flamethrower units are OP as hell, the grenade throwers should not have more than 3-4 ammo and the napalm dudes should have just 1 "ammo" or an extremely low rate of fire to keep it in any way realistic.

You should set the cannons right in front of your front infantry line, there is no reason for them to be so far ahead of your melee units.
This way only a couple of them die if the enemy gets to your line while the rest are protected by the melee force, also this way the cannons disrupt the enemy charge while your units can still engage without moving forwards to much.

Insane casualty numbers btw, what are your PC specs if I may ask?
I am considering upgrading my own atm.

The melee units did nothing except drink Turkish coffee in that battle. Perhaps they were not even needed. The only 2 casualties were from friendly fire. The various units, including the cannons, re-arranged themselves a little during the battle, they were probably more nicely laid out at the start.

These were custom battles, and they were set up with just a few missile units for the AI.

Musket and arquebus units are a little OP too. The vanilla attack values around 13-17 would be enough. On the other hand it is fun to have these units, most of the time they do not do much in open battles, but in certain kinds of battles they can be devastating. Indeed, a lot has to do with selecting the place for a battle as Ser Gareth said.

The computer was an Asus Republic of Gamers laptop with 8GB RAM from a couple of years ago. Some battles crashed because of the numbers, not all went to the finish.

It's all about picking the locations of your battles wisely. Flamethrowers while your enemies are crossing a river can cause massive casualties lol.

    Hi everyone,
I do not yet have any in-game screenshots of what I am currently making but you can see what's brewing for Titanium here and in the few posts after that to the end of the thread.
When finished they will be made available for every mod.

Here's my favorite screenshot from an album I compiled detailing my conflict with the Mongols:

I call it "Smoke and Dust", it was the immediate aftermath of a flaming artillery shot that landed in the middle of a large blob of men. The rest of the album is here: http://imgur.com/a/q6icY

    Rebel does not give up his precious little fort;

I captured the damn thing and he besieged me.
He lost the siege along with most of his troops(I also had serious losses) and now he besieges me again so my general cannot replenish his bodyguard nor...you know, escape.

I will have to balance the unit_descr though, just as in regular SS, the eastern archers are completely ahistorically too powerful.

EDIT; forgot to write, the submod is Titanium
