    Default Problem starting Provincial Campaign

    Here's what I started with:

    1. Fresh install of RTW (Sega White Label Edition), it's my understanding that this is patched to 1.5 already.

    2. Install BI.

    3. Install fatw_fe.

    4. Install fatw_fe_1_9.

When I try to start the provincial campaign I get "Please select an item from list" and will not let me advance to select factions menu.

When I exit the program a pop up is present saying:

"Script Error in bi\ci/data/world/maps/campaign/forth_eorlingas/descr_strat.txt at line 10 column 1

Expected start date of campaign or battle."

    Thanks for any help,

    Mike

If you had read the installation instructions for FE you would have seen this line:

The Fourth Age: Total War – Forth Eorlingas
a mod for BI 1.6 contained entirely within its own modfolder!

In case it is still not clear, the devs, who are much friendlier than me, kindly put in an additional reminder just to make sure people didn't miss this important detail that may not be clear to those that didn't read the title of the post and just started randomly clicking download links:

    2. Make sure your copy of RTW BI IS PATCHED TO 1.6. This patch can be downloaded from the SEGA site (http://www.sega.com/support/support....pport_patches). There is no need to install previous patches first.

Do you have any further questions?

Well, I didn't randomly start clicking links. I thought my BI was already patched to 1.6. I generally try to read things and work them through on my own but occasionally I get stuck or miss something.

On the plus side for you, you got to take pot shots at someone looking for help, make you feel better internet tough guy?

    Thanks for your reply.

Ah, xerex, welcome to the world of player feedback for months and even years of hard unpaid work.

Starship - please understand that we have many people who do not check they are patched to 1.6 first and then contact us. Not only do we not understand why the instructions are not read properly, but also why install error threads are not checked so that the error can be identified without having to post and take us away from precious time working on the Mod. Can you imagine how frustrating it is seeing people post the sam eor similar problems across a half dozen forums alomst daily when a little attention to the instructions and former threads would have avoided such a burden on our time? And Xerex is doing some very hard and time-consuming work on the mod I might say and I hope you will understand his perspective (and mine BTW).

We wish you a joyful experience with the Fourth Age and thank you for your interest and support - it really is appreciated despite our frustrations (it's the modding temperament y'know)

it wasn't though..right? As is stated in many a thread on this or any of the other 3 forums this mod is spread out over, *thinking* your BI is patched to 1.6 isn't the same as actually looking at the version number is it? I know, I know, checking your version number requires starting up the game and waiting for it to load and selecting options and thats just too long. You are so excited about the mod, that you just hope you are patched up and away we go! Then when it doesn't work, you say to yourself, "Of course *I* didn't make that mistake that everybody else makes. I am smarter than them. My problem must be a REAL problem with the mod...no wait..here is somebody with EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM...well...they fixed it by patching to BI 1.6, but that couldn't be my problem because I am smarter than them. It must be some other error that causes *exactly* the same problem. I better tell the devs so they can help me."

Is there *ANYTHING* we can do in the instructions to make this clearer for you? Do we need a neon sign? blinking lights? a naked woman pointing to the BI 1.6 statement with her ...woman things? Subliminal messaging? Would any of these help? maybe thay should just post links to my rants on the subject in the installation instructions as a warning for those that fail to patch to BI 1.6.

I am hoping that maybe...just maybe, someone will see this thread and think, boy that Xerex guy is a real *******. I better check my version number so he doesn't have an excuse to be mean to me. If one person does that, my post was worth it. I am sorry that you had to be the one to recieve the assholishness though. You did not deserve it anymore than any of the thousands of people who have posted about these problems. I was a little drunk (olive garden makes a great wine called principato rosata. best wine I ever tasted...not really a fan of wine either), and I had just finished posting the exact same post in another forum about the exact same problem to someone who was being even denser than you on the subject. So, I just copied and pasted what I wrote for him, and this, admittedly, probably wasn't appropriate for you.

As do I, and when I miss something obvious that every third post on the forum is about, I expect to get a pissy response from someone who has better things to do than answer a question I could have found the answer to by randomly clicking a few forum threads.

    no...not really...if I enjoyed it, I wouldn't be so pissy now would I?

Well, from what I understand of your post, you had an 1.5 install of RTW. This though doesn't mean that your BI is 1.6 (since you haven't installed it yet). Now, if you install BI now, it will become version 1.4 (and RTW probably a mixture between 1.5 and 1.3). So, after BI is installed, install the 1.6 patch (as said).

    And welcome to TWC, Xerex!
