I destroyed the Gallic Armies. Unfortunately one of my slinger units was destroyed very early and that's where most of my losses came from.

a noble victory inded MasterAdnin!
may i ask as to why you chose 2 more slingers over the two velite units? just wanted to see the pros cons is all.....
Because he whirled behind the enemy and fired into their backs. Against the house rules. lol
lol and a lil bit of cheating the ai....

even with my earlier post considered i still think master adnins victory was heroic - alls fair in love and war![]()
Close but no bananas. My formation usually has two slingers on either side of the hastati to hit the sides and plus skirmisher warbands can be deadly against armored units so they can tear my romans to pieces, another reason why I have slingers instead of velites, plust I don't know how to use velites.

I don't go behind because you've said in my previous threads the AI doesn't know how to react. I just attacked a frontal charge of hastati, went behind with princeps, and reinforced hastati line with triarii while constantly using barbarian cavalry to attack sides and back.
Oh yea, my formation was different since I thought I was going to be destroyed, so another reason for my victory.![]()
hahaha thanks man![]()

Lol, Unfortunately for me, my front line is often made up of Hastati, so to reduce casualties I use Principles?
I use them as a reserve almost, in larger battles to flank and plug in!
Well yeah you could put your princeps in front if you dont care about historical accuracy, but then you would lose princeps from the original charge and especially the missile fire, instead of hastati. But if you arent going to brag about how few men you lose, then theres not much of a reason to do it.
its just cheaper to put hastati on the front lines. they're more "expendible" than principes and trarii, especialy early on, when money is tight and provincial barracks are limited.
i agree with konig, money is tight early on for u want to build happiness and economic structures.... so if ur princeps or triarii get damaged then you will have no barracks to retrain them lol. that is why 'most everyone uses hstati at front line, plus they shouldn't take heavy casualties at all if u use them right and not just throw them away wen not in shield wall, i NEVER charge a barbarian army i just advance real close to it so that they rush me and i can counter charge i like to use the standard historical way of engaging in this period light troops first ten princeps then triarii.... for most battles i do not even use them for a cavalry charge into a roman shield wall may hurt your unit a lil but then their cavalry will drop like flies lol. against average gaul/carthage early stacks i lose about 150 romans, unless they have tonnes of elephants!!!!!! - hannibal![]()

double post deleted
I always put hastai in my front line of the princeps. I use them for reserves or support later on in the fight. the Triarii i always use them to protect missle troops or atleast a few to help out in battle if needed i do use cavalry as well to either protect flanks or kill missle units.
