    Site of Famous Battle:
    The Battle of Hadrumetum(Carthage)
    Year:
    208 BC

    The Great Legio III of Rome stood before the walls of Hadrumetum when the mighty garrison of Carthage sallied forth joined by two other forces in an attempt to destroy Rome's Legion.

    The armies met for battle in fields near to the city where the Romans formed the Imperial Defensive formation with Mercenaries, Gladiators and Triarii defending the flanks.

    The Carthaginian Hordes clashed with the Hastatii front line slowly forced them back, the Principles moved forward and re enforced the front line. After hours of hard fighting the Carthaginian line broke giving a large gap for the Roman cohorts to flank the remaining troops, slaughtering them in their thousands.

    The Roman General has been award "Triumph" for killing over 15,000 of Rome's enemies, he is a local hero and Romes most promising Commander!

    Another one!

    This Battle is about a year and a half later, Legio V in Northern Italy defending against the Germans was sent to attack two large Gallic forces, but they decided to attack it instead, my Garrison was put on hold at the battle border, my Legion set up in the usual formation.

    Two full Gallic armies formed up as one, I have never seen two AI armies work as one, they overwhelmed my Legion of around 3000, how ever fighting for a long time they became tired.
    My re enforcement army of around 2500 came on and I put them in a tight formation in the corner of the map, there the Gallic forces tried to attack but were then defeated! I fielded over 5000 troops altogether, a full Legion of roman soldiers, over 3000 died and Legio V needs to be rebuilt.

    Another full Gallic army attacked my town along the South coast of Gaul, I formed blockages and defenses in the roads to the plaza and managed to hold out, how ever it was a very close battle as they attacked my out numbered Garrison on all 3 main roads to the plaza.

    How ever, I have a temporary Ceasefire with the Gauls, but the Germans and Dacians are becoming a pain! Germania has forces with like 2 silver experience on almost all troops and my Newer legions do not stand a chance up there. Legio IV is stuck in a fort besieged by a full German Army and my town which was helping to rebuild Legio IV is under siege by a smaller force but still tough and Legio IV is in no state for an open battle.

    Legio VI is under construction in Roman Greece, but is only half complete and all unit have 1 experience each, that force will be used to defeat the Dacian invaders before trying to take on Germania.

    Mean while Legio I, II and III are pushing West in Africa, I seriously need marius reforms, but the Year is like 205 BC.

    cool nice job you must be quite a general

    ive never seen an spqr campaign in which dacia has held out past 220bc, they always get overrun by macedon and germania in my games so i never get to fight them

    i have another great battle story of which i'm a bit proud (actually it were 5 battles during one turn on the same spot)

    (it happened some weeks ago)

    in 182 bc i was campaigning in northern macedon with my best general, Valerius Domitianus. he had 7 stars, was a war veteran and got an extra star when fighting macedon. he had with him the 12th republican legion which wasn't complete (2457 men) after 3 smaller battles.

    when i hit the turn botton, i was attacked by a full stack + a smaller force of macedon (3941 + 529 men). i crushed them, killing 4408 men and only losing 294 men. then i was attacked again by a full stack of macedons (4197 men) but i crushed them again, killing 4157 men and losing 916 men this time.

    i had only 1294 men left, but that didn't matter because those filthy macedonians attacked me again with an army of 1894 men. i prevailed and killed 1832 of them, losing 283 men. another army (1855 men) was sent to me and i killed them all.

    with only 738 men left, i was attacked by another full stack, totalling 3352 men. this time i couldn't hold my line any more and lost the battle, killing 946 macedons but losing 522 men of my own and my great general.

    it took about 70 minutes to fight the battles, i lost 2226 good soldiers and 1 great general. but i killed 13.198 macedons and 3 of their generals (incl. their faction heir).

    after those 5 battles, the constant thread of full macedonians stacks was severly diminished.

    wow, amazing! i guess Macedon is still sending full stacks. i dont have a border with Macedon yet, but they've tried small incursions into Italy, nonetheless. I only have 3 (premarian) legions. 2 in Sicily (just took Lybaeum) and one defending north Italy (trying to keep costs down), from Gauls and apparently Macedons.

    Strange, for me Macedon didnt last long, I took two Macedonian settlements with light defenses and as I concentrate my force to the North and South West, Greece has completely owned them, so I'm not getting any problem with them.

    Dacia is supposed to be weak, Dacians are the people Emperor Trojan wiped out, but they are annoying me, and someone have any tips on getting these Germanians off my back!?

    Gaul has not restarted the War, and does the SPQR send in their armies or do they stand around now, I noticed one SPQR army in northern gaul once in vanilla RTW.

    Also My plan is to sweep Carthage out of Africa then take Spain/Greece/Egypt/Gaul/Dacia/Briton.

    What do the Marius Reforms take place?
    Or at least when do I get Republican Legionnaires?

    I was fighting on the german border. With my Legio III and IV defending the borders from those germans. I then click the turn button and 2 full german stacks attack my legions. This was weeks ago so I don't remember the numbers I killed but all in all. The battle took like an hour to finish. I completly lost my 3rd legion and the fourth barely survived. I killed like over 5000 germans and 2 generals. One of them was the faction leader. After that battle I replaced the third and fourth legions with another and sent them back home to be retrained. Later they were the driving forces in my invasion of Carthage. But that battle I will never forget cause it shows how hard it is to defeat the germans.

    Trust me I know your pain!

    Damn I mean I can't get a ceasefire and I didn't think Rome was supposed to be fighting them yet! lol

    Like I said, I have Legion IV and V there.
    Legion V is trapped in their fort and Legion IV is at like 25% strength, the commander appears to be getting tired of war and the settlement which was providing troops for it is under siege also by Germania.

    All other Legions such as I, II and III are in Carthage and my new Legion VI is still being built to the South East of my Romano-German war, but first off it will only have 1 experience each unit and would have to kick out the Dacian invaders first.

    I remember another set of battles. I had invaded Macedon from the north and greece from the south I was planning to pinch them and then eventually the legions will meet in the middle. didn't work like that. Macedon sent 2 full stacks at my 6th legio. boom they were gone. Next they sent another 2 stacks at my 4th legio. Boom Gone....Then They send 1 stack against my 3rd legio in the south. Boom gone. This was all happening in one turn. Then my auxiliary legions were destroyed. And look i'm a great commander I know how to command against these people. I just lost everything. In total I lost like 18,000 romans. So I went back to Italy with my tail between my legs.

    Yea telling of past victories is a great way to past time. But once in a while it's ok to talk about something else. Like what happened to ones legions in a certain campaign. I can tell stories of my campaigns until the cows come home. Invasion of carthage, gaul, Britian, spain. And all the stuff in those invasion.

    as i read the messages which are posted here, i notice most of you have a lot of trouble defeating macedon. i must say, macedon is a tuff cookie, but i haven't had that much trouble defeating them. the only ennoying thing is they are able to keep sending full stacks after one other and wear you out.

    what i did (and was pretty effective) to defeat them, i took 1 or 2 big towns (spartha and the one above spartha's) packed them with a full legion (but i only used 1 spear auxiliary instead of 3 and replaced those 2 by 2 skirmishers) and let the macedons come. they've sent full stack after stack and they all died in front of my walls. (maybe some of you don't like this idea because it's not really 'fair', like bridge battles)

    meanwhile, i used 2 other legions to invade greece from the northwest, taking city after city because most of their forces were sent to the south of greece trying to take those 2 cities back.

    i killed 158.007 of them (only battle results) and i have driven them back north of the danube where they are fighting rebels, scythians and germans and thus leaving me alone. my danube border is pretty peacefull now...

    WHY would you want to play on H/M when you are having touble on M/M? I balanced the mod to be the best IMO on M/M Playing on Hard and Very Hard just gives the AI way too much advantage in battles. So you like Archers beating your Hastatii in Hand to hand on VH? lol

    Lol what? I got owned on walls when against Germans! Espesh on Pre Marius! lol

    I held out and killed over 2000 but I was finally defeated!

    OMG!

    Anyone had this?

    Right, my entire Legion in Carthage vanished! Just I ended turn, it was attacking a Carthaginian town with the two other Legions covering, ended turn and it vanished! Commander and troops gone, that was my Legio II.
    It wasn't attacked, no message saying General died or so on, it just disappeared leaving me with Legion I and III in Carthage now.

    My Campaign isnt going so well atm!

    Because my Legion vanished, my mine was diverted and so i 4got to sally my Legion V out of its fort, so that was then defeated due to hold out time running out. Legion IV now has a mass of random troops in it now and I need to defeat and get a peace with the Germans.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Another Famous Battle!
    Year: 202BC
    The Battle of Labienus
    General Manius Labienus of Rome's Legio VI led his troops against two large German armies near the settlement of Patavium. (Which was taken by Germania a year previously)
    A defensive array of troops was established with hidden cavalry and Triarii poised to flank! General Labienus used a new tactic, placing his Principles at the front with Hastatii in reserve and placing Archer units in front of Javelin Mercenaries.
    The battle ended with the German Chosen archers finally giving up the fight and routing, with one German General dead the Faction Leader escaped, how ever him and his 33 remaining guard were killed by Labienus and his Legion a turn later.
    Legio VI now assists the remains and patched up Legion IV in retaking Platavium and defeating the remaining German forces in the area.
    Legio VII has been created, a force of some Roman/Carthaginian Mercenary units to take the settlements to the east of Carthage while Legio I and III continue their push West. The Gauls have suffered another defeat loosing yet another force and the Greeks have all but destroyed all Macedonia. Dacia has played no furthur part in this war but refuse to cease their status of hostile towards the Roman Republic!
