So a friend e-mailed me that the first Dragonlance movie - Dragons of Autumn Twilight - is coming out as an animated film at the end of summer, or possibly for the Christmas season 2007. I'm both excited by seeing it in film but dismayed at the following:

    1. It's completely animated - I was hoping Dragonlance would make a good candidate for next LOTR-style series

    2. Some of the cast decisions are questionable - Keifer Sutherland plays Raistlin and Lucy Lawless plays Goldmoon (Xena and Jack Bauer in a fantasy film, is that really the best idea?) Many key characters like Sturm, Tanis, and Caramon are played by TV nobodies, which can be good but also bad for an epic movie.

Wow - they're seriously getting desperate for crap fantasy to adapt into movies to cash-in on LOTR now, aren't they? First that utter garbage, 'Eragon' - now Dragonlance books? What's next - the Forgotten Realms books? Those things that read like they were written by twelve year-olds?

Never read dragonlance books, but I have read some Forgotten Realms books.

Some are good, some are bad. None are really "great," but there have been some entertaining books.

I don't know why all books have to be "sophisticated," why can't you just have some mindless action every now and again? It works for TV, Video games, and movies, why not books?

Seeing this makes me giddy, now to top it off animated Homeland trilogy by R.A. Salvatore would simply make me faint with anticipation if only it could happen.

Not all are bad, some are pretty damn good. No worse than Star Wars books or anything else like that.
