    Default Punic Wars

In my Romani 0.81a campaign I beseiged Messana and got a message that the Carthaginians would declare war if I didn't leave the region, needless to say I didn't so they declared war. I negotiated a ceasefire as I wasn't ready for a major war but the next turn I was at war with them again. I understand there is a script to help start the First Punic War if the conditions are right but does the script mean I will constantly be at war with Carthage? Do I need to mimic the First Punic War before I can negotiate a truce properly?
I would just like to add that I'm loving the mod, I downloaded it a while a go and had a look but felt it would be too time consuming to play properly. I decided to have a go while waiting for the 1.2 patch for Medieval 2, now I doubt I'll be going back to Medieval for a long time.

How dare they to declare war? You should punish them by roman law!

Listen guys, he talx about roman law that disrespects treaties of peace of sicily (the stolen territories of Sardinia & Corsica) and the limitation of Zone of Influence of Ebro (Alliance with Saguntum).
you should be careful, there is still other Hannibals

    Agree with MAA

Why interfering in their affairs and entering in their lands if you don't want to make war against them?
You should think wisely before act.

Other thing... this is not Rome Total Diplomacy but Rome Total War

Ah this explains why I suddenly had war all the time with the Romans in my campaign as Carthage, had the same thing with a rebel settlement that made me go into war with the hellenos.

I have not played a Roman game since the first open beta, but IIRC the script only works if Messane is Eleutheroi. So as long as you besiege Messana (or are in the province while Messana is still not taken), the script will be triggered, but once you take the city you can make peace again.

All of Sicily is claimed by Carthage, even if they don't have direct control of it. Any attempt to interfer in their area will result in war. If you don't want war, then don't go after territory claimed by Carthage. If you negotiate peace, there is an understanding that you will withdraw from Sicily. If you do not, the peace won't last. (I think once you hold the city of Messana, if you get peace it will last.)

Yes but I don't think that the Romans did realise in my Carthage campaign that they would start a war with me when they tried to take siciliy or does the AI considers what it should do?

No, the AI can't 'see' the script.
But that is somewhat realistic too. The Romans don't care about Carthaginian claims and just take what they want. And you as Carthage, your Carthaginian Senate was outraged by Roman actions and declared war on them, even if it wasn't a good idea.

You 're playing as a soldier, romans too, the Ai and scripts plays the senat of rome & even carthage.
when there is attack against them, they declare war. You are the general who is in charge of the operations.
Senat is not useful in preventing war only, they can and they always declare it ...
