    Default Ranged Devastation(picture)

Now it doesnt show my formations. I set a row of seven longbowmen(spread formation) and layed spikes down. Then I put four ribaults behind them. I mixed two more longbowmen inbetween the ribaults and layed more stakes. I put my trebs right behind them and two calvary units on the flank to center.

Now I did level all my units up fully so they wouldnt run out of ammo. But I pitted them against horse archers, chivalric knights, dismounted fuedal knights. The battle odds start 3:1 in the AI's favor on medium.

Basically what happens is they try to use their horse archers on the first line of longbowmen. So they do the circle formation creeping closer and closer as they circle. Their entire army marches in formation right down the center. When they start taking heavy fire they back off and regroup. When the entire army creeps close enough they will try to rush. Thats when the second line of longbowmen and ribaults start firing. Since the first line of longbowmen are in spread formation they wont take much ribault fire if the enemy gets to close. Sometimes the trebs can miss and come close to or hit your first line but it wont have a big impact.

Then what I did as soon as my longbowmen would moved back a bit by default when the enemy got to close or tried to charge I moved the ribaults up and put them inbetween the first line of longbowmen. Anticipate the enemy fleeing and send in your two calvary units.

Did the computer army have full gold chevrons and weapon/armor upgrades?

It looks nice, but it looks pretty impractical for campaigns/multiplayer.

No the AI didnt. On the slider bar the AI still started with 3:1 odds though. If I would have gave them all chevrons the arrows wouldnt pierce their plate. These were the best Spanish units. It was heavily in their favor but they didnt have seige. In the event that they had seige longbowmen will auto run and reset position if they take heavy fire. Plus I had five trebs that could fire at any ranged artillery.

I pitted that army against the best Spain had with the exception they no seige. Their army was larger and had alot more power toe to toe. I was just testing a ranged method to find the right combination. That was the first test. Im going to try out this selection against the best Timurid army with the cannon elephants.

The battle was really fun to watch. There was so much ranged fire coming down on them. They cant rush because of the spikes. They try to. They tried to flank with horse archers too. But when they get close the second line starts firing. The AI tried to rush the entire army and they could have pushed my first line back, but they would have ran into all the spikes anyway. And longbowmen will reposition themselves automatically. My second line was never even touched at all. Even if they killed the seven longbowmen units the next line was even stronger.

I like doing this with Janissary Musketeers+Bowmen perched up on a ledge, you can defeat multiple armies with an ideal setup.

I've had alot of fun on the Redoubt map doing this. Theres nothing like watching peasants fall under a rain of arrows.

Its not peasents on the ground. Those are all plate armored units that take a ton of arrows to kill. They're brown because they're burnt from fire arrows and seige.

I did something like this in my Spanish campaing. Had two armies attack me in a canyon. But i got lucky and ended u eing perched on the hill, but their backup army was behind me. So I had my tebs, catapults, ballistas, and xbows fire on the reinforcements, and and my long bowmen fire down the gorge at the slowly advancing army of the French. Most of the units i had, had gold chevrons from many battles like this one. So 3 trebs, 3 catapults, 1 ballista tear apart one army, and leave my 2 units of Gendarmes (sp?)to round them up and catpure most. Then I took my 5 mounted xbows and charged the other army, well did the circle thing at the top of the gorge as they advanced. (btw....how hard do you tihnk it'd be to reload a xbow on a horse as you move? lol) By the time my siege equip. got turned and situated, the French where low on morelae and ready route with one good push. So I got my siege to throw dead cows and flaming balls onto them. By this time they were close to my 2 lines of Sword and Buckler infantry. The hand to hand only lasted about 30 secs.....then the Frnech routed and were chased by my mounted xbows.

Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam.
( Tr. "I have a catapult. Give me all the money, or I will fling an enormous rock at your head." )

    Cool pic, mate.

Anyone else love doing this on Redoubt? I love it with the HRE... Artillery and Cloud swords, ftw.
