Why even ask? I can't fathom why you would drop $3500 on something and not do any research on the item...

But to answer your question, no, it won't be decent. You'll have crappy framerates and you'll be wondering why your system is running so darn slow with only 4 GB of RAM (you might have to stop some processes to optimise performance). Also make sure to constantly delete things from your Hard Drive, as you'll be pressed for space once you start downloading from the interweb. That 500 gig HDD should get cramped almost before you hit the power button for the first time.

not to be a prick but Im thinking you know just how nice that rig is and you started this thread just to flaunt your wares Agrippina.

now Im gonna be a prick, I could have built you that thing for a lot less than $3500.

You told me you had it running at 6Ghz which was comparable to you o/c 4300.

If your going to get Quad core I would wait until Intel launch Penryn, this article

it was running @ 6 but its still slower than my 4300 by a decent margin

You are overpaying by a lot. Gateways suck. You should have built it yourself.

I'm putting together a computer rig right now, and my entire computer is within $100 of the cost of your processor alone. Yeah, go and brag. Your e-Penis won't last forever.

    Interesting note:
    Processor: $970
    RAM: 666MHz? You could get faster. $300 for some DDR2 800 4-4-3-5
Motherboard: Yours could handle the DDR2 800. Both ways, $210
Hard drive: Could always add more, but 500 is more than enough. $150.
Video card: Like you're not bragging. $600
Case: Nothing says "Great computer" like looking cool. $200.

Without the optical drives and monitor, you're at $2430. Depending on what you got, I think you could have saved between $300-500 by building it yourself, but then again you probably would need to buy the operating system too. Maybe $100 bucks then.

The only thing I can say about your computer: Your motherboard has a DDR2 800 standard. But the RAM is at 667, and this RAM is awesome.

Other than that, brag away. Your e-penis must be huge.

Thanks for the feedback, I did a little research but I dont know alot about computers so I just got what looked decent. I also tried building one and the price wasn't that much lower, plus then no warranty, no factory overclocking ect. Gateway does kinda suck (or did in the past anyway) but their new computers look quite nice for the money, the one im buying starts around $1500.

Sometimes you could end up paying hundreds (or near $1000) extra for buying it from a company rather than building it yourself. But you actually managed to get a good deal - maybe spent an extra handful of fives, but really for the warranty and everything you didn't come out half-bad at all. I've seen deals by Gateway that were better than building it myself, actually.

Overall, you got an awesome computer for a completely fair price. You could go for the eight core Mac Pro's with 16GB or RAM for around $20,000, but there is just literally no reason to go that far. Have fun with it!

why would you pay $970 for a processor? Just why? In a few months the price of that thing will be halved (exageration there for effect) ditto the Graphics Card. I have never understood why people buy top of the range parts for their computers, when they'll be so much cheaper so soon.

Personally I look at parts and find the level where the price per increase (be that speed, size, processing power etc.) stops being linear (i.e. you begin to get BIG jumps in price for small increases in goodness. Then I buy the parts at the top end of that scale. I usually end up with a very decent rig for around £500. Not top of the range by any means, but it'll certainly run anything out there on pretty high settings.

The thing is, this method seems to work no matter when you but your PC, just the longer you wait, the better it is, but the more advanced the software has become so you need it that much better.

If I've helped you, rep me. I live for rep.

^currently building a rig but need my damn pittence wages to go in before I can get a graphics card. what I have so far-

    Asus p5b deluxe
    2gb ram pc6400
    dual core 6600 processor
    ?

What should the question mark be? I'm spending £550 max so it has to be below £200(ish)

Any thoughts? The rep monkey will swing by those with good answers!
