Just something i thought up to encourage contribution to the Wiki project here on TWC. Personally I'd like to see more people take part, and i figure the prospect of a shiny medal may help things along.

Anyway, thoughts are appreciated - particularly with regard to the requirement of a "simple majority" - is this too low? Who knows..

I support. A simple majority sounds fair to me.

Sounds good, but when is this medal system being implemented?

since obviously anyone can be a wiki contributor and there are no wiki content staff (even the editor being elected as opposed to appointed like other content staffers) i see no reason no to support this

my one comment would to suggest that instead of creating medal after medal which don't exist, we harass Sim until he actually implements the medals set up, so that those few that have, or could be awarded, actually ARE!

To be fair on Sim, he has posted a to do list which has the forum medal plugin on it. He's only one person after all, and between real-life and attempting to fix server side problems on a forum with this much traffic i imagine he doesn't have much spare time.

On the other hand i think the amount of forum downtime lately has been very minimal, so perhaps more precedence could be given to things like this - but then i don't really know.

True, anyone CAN be a contributor. But certain people actually are and to varying degrees. The wiki hasn't had it's chance to shine just yet, but it will. I think it apt that we are ready to reward the members who go that extra mile and do contribute to TWC and the TWC kb.

I fail to see why the lack of a permanent Wiki Editor warrants your opposition. People will naturally watch who is writing decent articles and who isn't, if they are interested. Soon enough Moderators will arise for the wiki. Simetrical is going to integrate the Wiki Members DB and the vBulletin Members DB so you can have a unified login.

And for the record, Simetrical is largely doing the right thing by not giving out shell access to this, that and the other guy who comes rolling around and asks for it. Give the guy a break.
    Simetrical's homeboy, yo.

i'm in no position to comment on his work load, noting only that he does a great deal that goes unnoticed and deserves a well earned break at some point. i've suggested numerous times he appoint some technical staff to help him... but yeah, this has been on the cards for a while now.

At the end of the day it is about priorities. The medals feature would be an icing on the cake thing and is hardly as important as, say, SVN or site stability.

I like it, and support. But excactly how can the editor decide who he/she wants to give the medal to? He'll have to click the history tab of every page to see who has contributed and who not. (Right?)

It's quite easy to see who contributes the most using the 'Recent Changes' page.

    Recent...

But the recent only takes in account the most recent changes, which can then be spelling error fixes, or just happen to be most "recent" when viewed.

You can look through an entire history of contribution for an individual, looking out in particular for new pages which have been created, images uploaded etc - then in a more detailed look you can see which articles have been expanded on by individuals and such.

Wont be too hard at the moment since there are relatively few regular contributors.

I agree that we should reward those that work with the Wiki project, but to give them own medal is a bit unnecessary, just expand the Scribes Quill to include those who work with Wiki.

    Scribes Quill
Gold Silver and Bronze quills awarded for over one years, 6-12 months, and 3-6 months service respectively as a Content Staff Officer or Wiki contributer- see Section 1 Article 5

Article 5 - Former Staff OfficersUpon retirement or resignation from an Officer position, all Vicecomites and up are awarded the honorary rank of Emeritus. These ranks are awarded automatically if time served as a Vicecomite, Comites, or Duces equals or exceeds 12 weeks. If the period in office is less than 12 weeks, these ranks can be awarded if The Council unanimously agrees. They are considered the same as honorary ranks awarded under Section 3.

All Moderators, Council Officers and Staff Officers are awarded a medal appropriate to the branch they have served in, in accordance with Section 5 of this document, if time served as an officer equals or exceeds 12 weeks.

The awarding of these ranks and medals is honorary and accords no additional rights or privileges except with regard to Emeritus as detailed in Section 4. The awarding of these ranks is the gift of the Consilium Regis to retiring Staff Officers and may not be removed by the Parliamentum.

The awarding of these ranks and awards to Staff Officers who are removed from their position following a vote of No Confidence, or are otherwise fired is at the discretion of the Consilium Regis provided the 12 week service provision is also met.

Any member of the Total War Center forums may be nominated by the TWC Wiki Editor to receive the "Scribes Quill" medal from the Parliamentum. Nomination and level of the medal shall be decided by the Wiki Editor based on contributions to the TWC Wiki project by the nominee.

It doesn't make much sense to detail a reward for non-content staff wiki contributors in a staff officer section though. The scribes quill is all fine and well, but the point of this was to advertise and promote the wiki project - the medal will likely be a little cartoon "wiki" or something. I would like this medal to stand alone.
