    Default Capturing Video

Is it possible to capture video from a DVD without a bunch of complicated shenanigans? I mean, like just a small snippet of a movie I want to turn into a zany GIF image. I've been searching on the interweb for help all day, and so far all results have implicated I need a digital video camera or something to that degree.

So...yeah. Any programs I can use to capture a clip from a DVD, playing straight on my computer?

you need editing software on the only one i can think of is part of the adobe suite. I know there are other programs but you'll run into cost's or copyright issues. Try searching for video editing software.

I think you need to look for a program that converts the DVD file into mpeg4 or dvix or some other compressing format (used for illegal movie distribution). Such programs, if good enough, should have an option to only copy/convert a part of the movie. I'm pretty sure such legal programs exist, though I don't know if you can get any of them for free (legally that is).

    Try Intervideos WinDVD
    http://www.intervideo.com/WinDVD/

Does just about everything, last time I checked there was a functional free trial download. But after trying it you might want to buy.

You could take a couple of stills with VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/), and then combine them into a moving GIF.

Yeah. Tried it already. Apparently you can only capture/import video from a digital camera or some such thing.
