    Default Big Visual Glitch Problem

When ever I play a battle Med. II after a few minutes the landscape starts to "come apart" I see large black blocks that flash across the screen, light-blue that might be a sky or body of water shows through the land in a seemingly random on-and-off pattern. Light green (the exact color of a highlighted unit) flashes as well and my computer freezes up for a few seconds.

When I play Oblivion wired fleshy "strings" connect various NPC's with a point in the sky (the strings tend to be the same color as their host) blades of grass inter-connect and trees and buildings form spikes.

I run a 3 GHz processor, 2 gigs of ram, and a NVIDA GeForce 6800 GS graphics card (with the latest drivers).

Both games worked perfectly when they first came out, but a few months ago I started experiencing the effects listed above.

The Oblivion problem sounds familar. I had it with my 6600GT. Go to control panel-display-settings-advanced-troubleshoot-uncheck the box with 'enable write combining' in. Restart.

If that don't work pray to god.

Nope, at least no change to the Medieval effects.

Try to cool down your graphics card, and try to install new drivers. If that wont work, it is quite sure the card is on the way to destruction, sorry

How would one go about doing that?

5 5700 graphic cards died on me that way...
Believe me, this could be a serious problem

For cooling: open your case and open your window, no kidding

First thing you need to do is measure the temperature on your gpu. Then come back and let us know what number you're seeing. That will let you know if the problem is your card is burning up. Crack your case open and turn the computer on. Make sure the fan on your gpu is spinning.

If that's not the case, then it's either a setting or driver issue. Did you update your drivers around the period when the game starting producing the graphical issues? If so, perhaps roll back to your previous drivers and try that.

5? Man! I would have stopped at 2.

I think I might have solved the problem. I set the Hardware acceleration slider to disable cursor and bitmap accelerations. It said that it counteracts problems involving corrupted images. I went through the same test (one battle) and had none of the problems I described before. The only thing is now my cursor twitches out and disappears when it's not moving (only in-game). If it takes care of the problem for good I can live with it, but if anyone knows how to stop this new problem I'm all ears.

Is there a way to allow cursor but not bitmap accelerations?

I notice when I play Oblivion I get small grainy green artefacts appear on the screen after while, but I don’t have any artefact issues with any other game so I can’t rule for sure that it is a hardware fault.

Your problem sounds like a classic cooling issue. Take the side panel of your case, plug in a hover, turn on the hover and suck out all the dust that’s clogging up your video cards fan and whilst your at it clean everything else as well.

If it looks like anthing like this (no it's not mine btw)

then your computer is as good as dead.

Get Counter: Strike Source and you can see enemy models spike and you get a nice hint not too rarely.
