Default A Problem with Bittorent and Lime Wire

I hav made specific and different ports for both azureus and limewire and checked whether the my Norton antivirus has been hampering the connection, but it isnt. yet in limewire, when i dl something, it never connects i.e. it always says "connecting". it doesnt matter how many seeds there are, but it doesnt connect. the same happens in azureus. i can hav more than 300 seeds in brackets, but the actual available seeds appear as 0. any help would be great.

A friend had Norton installed and it recognized Bittorrent as Trojan Program, blocked nearly all the ports and even refused to be deinstalled, so throw it away and check your firewall too.

Yeah, you might wanna be a bit more careful with this kinda talk on TWC (aka don't do it at all)...

I was thinking the same question a little myself, but I guess it's the discussion of software that is almost solely used for illegal downloading that causes the issue, even if it isn't explicitly stated (I imagine it's like linking a picture with TWC censored words is the same as somehow avoiding the censor [which I myself have been guilty of]).

I'm afraid this sort of talk is against the rules. I will be reporting you to the proper authorities in a moment.

If you don't mind me asking, what has he said that's against the rules? All he said was he can't connect to any of the seeds.

I've been here for longer than you. I know what's against the rules and what isn't.

I hate to crush your ego but you obviously don't.

Freddie is correct unless it is mentioned that they are using it to infringe copyright or steal intellectual property then this kind of talk is well within the ToS. As it happens I have a torrent program running downloading legal files right at this moment, not every torrent out there is illegal.

As for drugs we can discuss them but not actively promote them (looking at Lozz) in people cross the line I whip out the ban hammer faster than you can unzip your pants for the verbal spanking, metaphorically speaking.

Azureus and Limewire are used to download these mediums. Believe me, I've seen these sorts of threads locked in the past.

the rules say we cant about weed ether, but we do and people here activly promote it.

as long as no one in this forum activly promotes ilegal downloading then its perfectly ok to talk about lime wire and bit torrent as you can download legal content over these programs and the programs themselves are not ilegal.

so if you have a technical fault with a legal program, you can ask for support imo

Legal content is never downloaded over Azureus. And we can only assume that he's downloading illegally.

This hasn't crossed the gray area...yet. P2P programs do have legal uses and have yet to be banned in the USA. Consider this a general warning, however. The first person to mention the illegal uses of these programs will receive a warning.

Some internet providers limit the use of bit torrents and peer2peer software.
I'm not entirely sure how they do it, but you might want to check your internet providers policy.

More likely it's your firewall after all.
You could try disabling the Norton firewall and using the build in windows firewall instead.
Or just test it without any firewall running, and accept the risk.

Funny, I distinctly remember using bit torrents to download America's army (legally), and also some large open-source projects/games.

But apparently YOU only use it for illegal downloads.
